#Inclusive workplaces are for everyone. They embody a #culture where every voice is heard, experience is valued and journey is supported. They are committed to creating environments that empower, uplift and #advocate. They drive #innovation and creativity. They acknowledge and dismantle #barriers to ensure equal opportunities for everyone to grow and succeed. They cultivate #belonging at all levels of an organization. Developing these workplaces requires fortitude and #resilience. These are the words that inspire me as we transition into #BlackHistoryMonth. As we take time to honor the rich history of the Black community, let's challenge ourselves to #learn from lived experiences that may not reflect your own. Let’s be the #change agents that have continued to advance progress in the eye of adversity today and in the days to come.

Black History Month is a dedicated time to highlight the contributions and impact of Black heritage and culture on our lives today. As we celebrate #blackhistorymonth let’s amplify Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) In workplace environments. Johnny Nelson MBE is a fantastic event host and motivational speaker. Johnny’s story demonstrates the ability to overcome challenges, resilience, mindset and the power of mentorship. We caught up with Johnny recently to ask questions on DEI within the workplace and here’s what he had to say- What strategies have you found effective in creating a comfortable environment for open discussions about diversity in the workplace? “I once worked with a cameraman who took me to one side to ask if it was okay to say coloured or black. I explained that he should say black or a person of colour. And he thanked me. He didn’t want to offend anyone but wasn’t sure what the right term was. My mum used to say coloured – it’s just not the right terminology today. I want people to feel comfortable asking those types of questions. You don’t know what you don’t know and the majority want to be educated & helped.” What role do you think leaders and managers play in fostering an environment where people feel safe to talk about race and diversity? “If they’re not confident, they should bring someone in who might be neutral, more knowledgeable, and more skilled at landing the right message. And it’s not just about one talk, one session – it’s about an ongoing programme.” Keep your eyes peeled, over the next few days we will be adding more on what Johnny had to say! But in the meantime if you feel like you could benefit from booking Johnny within your workplace environment to come down and speak, please see the link below- https://lnkd.in/esA5xFrh #blackhistorymonth #HR #motivationalspeaker

Is your leadership style building bridges or walls? 🌉🚧 #LeadershipInAction #BlackHistoryMonth In our journey towards a more inclusive workplace, it's crucial to understand and address the concept of 'White Fragility.' This term, coined by sociologist Dr. Robin DiAngelo, describes the defensiveness and discomfort some white individuals experience when confronted with discussions about racial inequality and injustice. White fragility can manifest in various ways, from denial of personal bias to avoidance of conversations about race, and it significantly hampers our ability to engage in meaningful dialogue and change. It creates barriers to understanding and solidarity, and as leaders, it's our responsibility to recognize and overcome these barriers. 💡 Tip: Start by reflecting on your own reactions to discussions about race. Do you feel defensive or uncomfortable? Why might that be? 👣 Try This: Engage in open, honest conversations about race and privilege with your team. Create a safe space where everyone can share their experiences and perspectives. 📢 Call to Action: Commit to educating yourself and others about racial issues. Use your platform to amplify Black voices and experiences, and actively seek out resources that challenge and expand your understanding. Together, we can foster a more inclusive, understanding, and empathetic workplace culture. #InclusionMatters #DiversityAndInclusion #EducateToEmpower #BeTheChange
