Here's the harsh truth about self-proclaimed CFOs on social media that nobody talks about. They’re all missing the mark. Yeah, they get a lot of likes on their posts. Cheat sheets of accounts payable, EBITA, and whatnot. Pure. Technical. Finance. Jargon. But let's be real here. They’re not CFOs. They're talking about basic accounting stuff. That's just a piece of what a real CFO does. 👉 CFOs need to think business. When I meet a client I wanna know (more in the video): ￫ What's their strategy?  ￫ Any acquisitions in the pipeline? ￫ How are they boosting productivity? ￫ How are they going to improve their cash profit? ￫ What actions are they taking to grow their business? That's the kind of big-picture stuff we need to focus on. Sure, part of our team handles the day-to-day money details. Like budgets and costs, which is super important. But that's not our end goal. Those are just tools to get us somewhere. The conversation needs to be about the business. Don’t get me wrong - technical finance aspects are vital. And they're not even used enough. Most business owners don’t pay any attention to them. Leave it to their accountants. What they should be doing is using these details to grow the business. So what we do is take all that technical stuff off their hands. They don’t have to worry about it. We use all this detailed info to help them make better decisions and improve their business. And that’s what being a CFO is really about. It's about using those numbers to help the business grow and get better. The CFO role is tough. What this cheat sheet does not include are concepts focused on protection and advanced tax strategies. Jonathan Quinn, Owner, Geckota I didn't know what I didn't know when it came to my company finance function. I hadn't fully appreciated the potential upside to bringing on a part-time CFO. As is the case with many business owners, I was spending a good portion of my time doing things that needed to be done, but those weren't really the things I wanted to be doing! Taking on a part-time CFO was in part to help grow the business and get it to the next level and in part about freeing me up to choose how I would spend my time. Our CFO, Mitch, plays a major role in the business running the company finances, but in reality, his role is much more all-encompassing. Mitch has been there and done it and just 'gets business'. I have always felt that Mitch has my back and is fully embedded in the business, clear on the direction we are headed in and fully committed to helping us get there. He's very responsive, always there when I need him and he supports me as well as the rest of the team. He takes 'ownership' of the financial operations and frees me up to work on the projects I want to work on. He has helped me build a successful business that gives me the freedom to choose how I spend my time. #cfo #thecfocentre
