Do we know what the similarity and difference between Olympic and Olympiad are? 🤔 Similarity: Both have their origins in Greece! 🇬🇷 Participants train rigorously for both competitions! Difference: Olympic Games are international sporting events organised every four years. Olympiads are international and national non-sporting events organised annually. As we celebrate the fighting spirit of our Olympic athletes, let's also recognise the tenacity and talent of our Olympiad competitors, for both test the limits of human performances! 👏 #Olympic #Olympiad

"Punching above our weight" - Pardon the pun following Kelly Harrington's boxing Gold medal, but that should be #Ireland's official motto, because it's true. What an achievement for a small country of just 5m people to not only win 4 gold medals so far at the Olympics, but also to have the highest productivity, the highest standards of education, of food production, and the nicest people in the world. I am inspired by this country's (and my team's) human resources and resourcefulness, and this ability to do it with a smile. In many ways, the Herdwatch journey would not have been the same anywhere else, or maybe even possible, because our business motto could also be "Punching above our weight" - We have always tried to do the right thing with limited resources, for farmers and ranchers, for our amazing team, for our communities, and we have built a fast-growing international business, a beacon of Irish #Agtech supported by fantastic Irish structures such as FRS Co-Op, Local Enterprise Offices in #Tipperary, AgTech Ireland, Renatus and of course Enterprise Ireland who have stood by us for many years in our international journey. Finally, none of this would have happened without Ireland's membership of the European Union - for all its failings (and it has many), the EU has brought people closer and given me and millions of others opportunities that did not exist just 30 or 40 years ago. (For those who don't know, I came to Ireland on an EU-funded ERASMUS student programme for a year, and never went back...and wasn't thrown out!) If it wasn't clear already, I am extremely grateful to have been "adopted" by the people of Ireland and #Roscrea. I will always be a proud French man, and love both nations (I have dual nationality), but Ireland has given me so much, including my wonderful wife Antoinette and daughter Amélie, and I will continue to do my best to give back. Maith thú agus go raibh maith agat Éire 🙏👏💚🇮🇪 PS: Ireland is officially 12th on the Olympics medals table (which is amazing) but actually 3rd on the "Gold medals per capita" table!! I think that table should be used officially alongside the other one - China are pretty much last on that one and the USA are 29th! "Olympics Glory in Proportion" as the website says 👇

One of the many reasons I accepted the #sportspharmacy consultant position to design, lecture and help launch the most #comprehensive sports pharmacy program (with a #clinicalsportspharmacist embedded with sports medicine/ athlete care!) in the US, is this: https://lnkd.in/gY32VWHz (present and past, a long list of the highest performers in their sports) Maybe some of these athletes took an ibuprofen or allergy pill or cream or any drug that might impact their performance, and for which we must check the status in sport before its used. #Athletes need more Qualified Sports Pharmacist they can look to for help as clean athletes. The stars were aligned with many other key factors, as well, to develop this as International Sports Pharmacists Network partnered with the USC Mann School of Pharmacy: >> Pharmacy Administrative leadership championed the idea, are knowledgeable and share a vision, >>the depth of experience and dedication and awareness of their medical professionals for athletic services, >>the relationship the outpatient pharmacist already had supporting the team, >>the interest of the pharmacy students, >>engagement with other departments, >>willingness to reform structures that had been silos, >>innovation with pharmacy counseling and public interface for the sports pharmacist, >>and more. Its the #hubofsportspharmacy looking ahead to #LA28 #sportspharmacists #sportpharmacy #drugsinsport #athletehealth #medicationsafety #medicationcounseling #pharmacyschool
From Paris with love... and 15 medals! Meet the Trojans who turned Olympic dreams into reality, representing 26 nations and making USC proud.🏅

There's been alot of people talking about this years 2024 France Olympics with topics including Turkey's shooter - Yusuf Dikec, and Julien Alfred winning St Lucia their first ever Olympic gold! However, something that's seemingly gone under the radar was Australia's strong performance at the games. The AOC (Australian Olympic Committee) increased their total medals in 2020 - 46, to an increased number of 53 medals in 2024. What's more interesting about this medal increase, is the amount of sporting talent winning these medals who were also born in Australia. In the past a significant percentage of the Australian victorious Olympians were born outside of the country. At the 2024 Olympics however, only 32% of their medalists were born outside of Australia. Really impressive results from team Australia. 🌏

* The Power of Persistence: Grandmaster Harika’s Golden Moment After 20 Years* Imagine dedicating two decades of your life to the relentless pursuit of excellence in team events, where every move isn't just for personal glory but for your nation's pride. Grandmaster Harika Dronavalli’s incredible journey began when she represented India in the Chess Olympiad at 12 years old. Since then, she has played in 10 consecutive Olympiads — a feat akin to competing in five Olympic Games! In the previous edition, Harika played in the competition while nine months pregnant. Many would’ve chosen to step back, but not Harika. Her determination and love for the game kept her going. Although that tournament ended with a bittersweet loss in the final round and a missed gold medal with just one point, Harika didn't give up. This year, in a similar high-pressure situation, India once again needed to win the final round for the gold. Harika, playing on the first board, delivered an impeccable performance. For the first time in 97 years in the history of the chess Olympiad, India won the gold medal. Please note that 181 nations participated in the tournament in the women's section. Harika’s story is one of resilience, patience, and the power of consistency. She has shown us that no matter the setbacks, you can create history if you keep moving forward with unwavering determination. If you watch her interview, you will realize the pride in playing for a nation and what it means to be patient. Inspiring interview of Harika: Link : https://lnkd.in/dEQJF8vv What inspires you to keep going in the face of challenges? Let's celebrate perseverance and the will to win! #ChessOlympiad #HarikaDronavalli #TeamIndia #Perseverance #Determination #ChessChampion #geniusgrowth #careertransformation

I butted my way into a conversation on this excellent post recently. They were covering some of my Go-to topics: Kiwis Olympics Kiwis AT the Olympics and Cheeseburger eating competitions at the Olympics! I feel my contribution moved the conversation along helpfully when I pointed out my 2002 and 2006 Olympic Brakeman, Matt Dallow had managed 21 Cheeseburgers in the allotted hour of competition. It reminded me of other stupid stuff we used to do while on tour qualifying for the Olympics. One particularly stupid one, I was undefeated in: Underwater swimming for distance. For those with knowledge, please understand that I have a) stopped doing this and b) been instructed in the error of my ways. However remembering it reminded me of recent posts around stress and recovery. I would generally swim at least a length further underwater than my team mates. I did this by ignoring all my body's feedback that I needed to breathe. I had a system that allowed me to override all my natural impulses and the relevance to the workplace (and the reason I stopped doing it) was that the potential to start making catastrophic decisions went up as my fatigue increased and oxygen levels decreased. The workplace, until very recently, presented fatigue as a badge of honour and achievement. In effect celebrating pushing to the end of one's limits with no regard for the sustainability of this approach nor for the potential reduction in quality of performance and thinking that occurs. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should! Factor in, and plan your fatigue and recovery strategies. What would you say is the first sign that your fatigue is, or is about to, impact performance? What is a point prior to that, that you could identify as the moment you need to stop and re-energise?

Calling all Kiwis. 📢 Here’s the only pre-Olympics post your international mates need to see. ⬇ —-- —-- —-- During the Olympics, we all look out for ‘our’ athletes, but we don’t know much about ‘their’ ones. So, as an international gesture of goodwill on behalf of New Zealand, here’s a 2-min guide to ‘𝗞𝗶𝘄𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀’. It’s designed to inform non-Kiwis and Kiwis alike on critical matters such as: • Where and how to spot a Kiwi • NZ’s greatest ever Olympians • Five Kiwis to watch in Paris • NZ’s biggest Olympic scandal • Our love/hate relationship with Aussies We also reveal the ‘real’ medal table (where Kiwis are way ahead of the USA) and the blue-ribbon event where we well and truly punch above our weight. —-- —-- —-- I’m Caley Wilson. I help high-performance teams get their stories told, while taking care of everyone involved. Want more of the world to see this post and become more Kiwi for a few weeks? Like 👍 Comment ✍ Repost ♻️

219/366 SPIRITS OF THE OLYMPIC There are three values why the Olympics are quadrennial events for every country on the earth. "The three values of olympism are excellence, respect and friendship. They constitute the foundation on which the olympic movement builds its activities to promote sport, culture and education with a view to building a better world." -International Olympic Committee- The Olympics are not just an event. It is more than that. The pressure, the challenge, and the process to be the best among the best. The athletes put everything in the sports to be the best. Sweat, tears and blood all become one. They put aside their family, friends and hobby. Just to focus, they sacrifice everything. Just to exceed our expectations. The Olympics are more than just an event. Fair play, Respect and Tolerate is compulsory for all the participants that take part in this event. Ignore the Is Not Real, Gold is just a bonus. The important part of the Olympics is to maintain the respect between each athlete and remain in a good relationship with the people around. #NadzmiJourney

After the European Championships is before the Olympics! 🌍 While we in Germany are still looking back on the successful European Football Championships, the next major sporting event is casting its shadow ahead: the Olympic Games in the French capital Paris! The games start today and run until August 11. This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Games after 1900 and 1924, and the sixth time the Games have been held in France. On behalf of our French sister company #KEBO France, we are also very much looking forward to the competitions. The Olympic spirit, the pursuit of excellence, teamwork in the respective disciplines - these are all values that we at KEBO also uphold every day! 🥇 #paris2024 #olympics #specialtychemicals #productionprocess #industrialcleaning #cleaningsolutions #chemicalindustry
