In 2023, the total number of battery electric cars sold in SA was 931, which was 85% higher than 2022's total BEV sales of 502 units. As it stands 7 months into 2024, total BEV sales are at 829 units, almost matching the total BEV sales of 2023. With new and more affordable EV models continuing to enter the SA market in the latter half of 2024 from VW, Stellantis, BYD, Volvo and potentially Chery, Jaecoo and Dayun, and with the prospect of an interest rate cut, I believe we could see >100% growth in EV sales in 2024 vs. 2023 in South Africa. The future of #sustainablemobility in SA is bright. #electriccars #electricvehicles
Reflecting on the new vehicle sales statistics naamsa | The Automotive Business Council said that the welcomed uptick in the July 2024 aggregate new vehicle sales figures could be the turning point for an improved second half of the year performance. The July 2024 new passenger car market at 29,934 units had registered an increase of 1,894 cars, or a gain of 6,8%, compared to the 28,040 new cars sold in July 2023. Car rental sales accounted for a sound 17,1% of new passenger vehicles sales during the month. Vehicle exports reflected a substantial decrease during the month compared to the correspondingly high monthly base level 2023. Adverse weather conditions during the month as well as declining exports to Europe, the domestic automotive industry’s top export region contributed to the weaker performance for the year to date. Looking at the recent vehicle sales stats from naamsa, it seems that while July 2024 showed some strong performance in new vehicle sales, it didn’t quite carry over into August. The medium and heavy truck segments had a mixed bag this month. Medium commercial vehicles saw a nice boost, with sales up by 56 units (or 8.1%) to reach 748 units compared to 692 units sold in August 2023. On the flip side, heavy trucks and buses dropped by 272 units (or 11.4%) from 2,381 units in the same month last year, totaling 2,109 units. Looking ahead, we’re hopeful that the MPC will reduce the repo rate in September. This could provide much-needed relief for cash-strapped consumers and we could potentially start to see a rebound the automotive industry in the medium term.

New Vehicle Sales Remain Strong in August Australia recorded 98,328 new vehicle sales in August 2024 making it the second-best August result on record. FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said that this was a good result despite August 2024 being down by 10.6 per cent on last year’s August number. “This is a positive result in historic terms with this being the second highest August ever in Australia,” he said. “The outlier in the data is the 2023 number which broke the previous best August result (2017) by 13.8 per cent. Year to date the market is up by 5.3 per cent..... https://bit.ly/3XAfBKN Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries #Australia #Business #Automotive

New Record for March New Vehicle Sales Records for new vehicle sales continue to be broken with the March result of 109,647 surpassing the previous March record of 106,988 which was achieved in 2018. The January to March result of 304,452 sales represents the best ever first quarter for new vehicle sales, an increase of 13.2 per cent on the first quarter in 2023. FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said that it was remarkable that nine of the past 12 months had seen the industry achieve record sales results. Since April 2023, the industry had delivered 1,252,230 new vehicles to the market. “This is a terrific result for the sector however, all car brands are well aware that these results cannot be taken for granted,” Mr Weber said. “We need to factor in the ongoing cost of living pressures and the challenges for industry and consumers that will emerge with the introduction of the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) in less than nine months.”..... https://bit.ly/3TMFXpD #Australia #Automotive
