naamsa | The Automotive Business Council has today released its BRICS+ Research Report 2024 which highlights that for South Africa, admission into BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] on 24 December 2010 has enhanced the country’s international stature, and trade and economic relations with these major economic forces. The expansion of the group to BRICS+ since 01 January 2024, including other significant emerging economies, promises to reshape various global industries, including the automotive sector. China and India have consistently featured as two of the South African automotive industry’s top 10 trading partners since 2010, mainly due to the increasing level of automotive imports. The integration of new member countries could optimise automotive supply chains within BRICS+. A trade analysis between South Africa and the five new BRICS+ members highlights the trends over the previous five years, aiming to inform potential growth opportunities in future as part of the BRICS+ formation. The relevance of understanding these trends is to strategise future trade relations and market penetration efforts with these countries. Future automotive industry expectations are characterised by potential opportunities for growth, innovation, and sustainability. Enhanced market access and a focus on eco-friendly transportation can drive the success of BRICS+ member countries such as South Africa.
