🌍 Yesterday at the Sustainable Aviation Futures conference, I had the opportunity as a Sustainability Manager at Brussels Airport, to reveal the exciting sustainable transition journey towards a sustainable horizon for aviation at Brussels Airport. 🛫 Brussels Airport isn't just an airport; it's a beacon of sustainability, striving for net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Here's how we're making it happen:  🌿 Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Leading the way with incentives for flights using SAF, Brussels Airport is fueling change from the ground up.  ✈️ Modernizing Fleets: Encouraging airlines to adopt low-noise, low-emission, and fuel-efficient aircraft with differentiated charges.  🚗 Mobility and Connectivity: Embracing modal shift mobility and stakeholder engagement to connect with the environment and surrounding cities.  ☀️ 100% Green Energy: Installing solar power and other renewables to produce all its own green power.  🔥 Fossil-Free Heating: Pioneering a fossil-free heating system to warm the airport's future.  The Stargate project within The EU Green Deal has accelerated the journey and is an example of how European Union financing can fast-track the transition to sustainable aviation. Collaboration is the key. By joining forces with energy, technology, and transportation industries and fostering innovation ecosystems, Brussels Airport is part of a collective effort to tackle aviation's challenges and pave the way for a sustainable future. Finally, I left some good advice for boosting sustainable aviation referring to: 💡 Financial Support to boost the sustainable development;  💡 Cross-Industry Collaboration & Partnerships like Stargate;  💡 A level playing field and Regulatory Frameworks.  Together, we can take flight towards a cleaner, more sustainable aviation industry! #StargateGreenDeal #EUGreenDeal

Revolutionising Sustainable Aviation: A Recap of Clean Aviation’s Flagship Event in Brussels This March, the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking marked a significant milestone by hosting its annual forum in Brussels, attended by over 400 stakeholders. The event signified a unified stride towards achieving climate-neutral aviation, gathering EU and regional policymakers, industry leaders, OEMs, researchers, and academia. Axel Krein, Executive Director of Clean Aviation, kicked off the forum, showcasing 16 European technological marvels. These exhibits not only celebrated Clean Sky 2’s legacy but also paved the way for Clean Aviation’s future endeavors. The dialogue underscored the need for enhanced EU coordination, harmonization of resources, and leveraging synergies for breakthroughs in hybrid-electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft. High-profile speakers, including Maroš Šefčovič of the European Commission and Jan-Christoph Oetjen of the European Parliament, echoed Europe’s commitment to spearheading global sustainable aviation. The event focused on the urgent requirement for collaborative innovation, strategic partnerships, and dedicated investment in #nonCO2 and NOx reduction technologies. Highlighting Europe’s role in the global shift towards sustainable aviation, discussions also delved into the challenges of decarbonization, the importance of intermodality, and the role of green energy in securing a sustainable future for aviation. As the forum concluded, Axel Krein’s reflections captured the essence of the event - a testament to the power of complementarity over competitiveness. We are pleased to share a new film released by RE:TV which demonstrates how the #AviationImpactAccelerator is charting a new course for the future of air travel. Our team of experts from around the world are building digital tools which allow us to imagine new futures for the aviation sector. These tools are being used to develop our 2030 Sustainable Aviation Goals, a set of actions which if implemented by 2030 would significantly cut the time required to achieve #zeroemissions flight. Rob Miller, AIA Lead, emphasises that "Rapid action is needed by industry and governments if we are to set a pathway to achieve zero emission aviation by 2050. These four goals demonstrate the ambition and urgency required if we are to get onto credible pathways." ✈️ Brussels Airport is setting a new standard in sustainable aviation by partnering with Integrated Environmental Solutions, LLC. to create digital twins of the airport's most energy-intensive areas. Key Highlights: 🔹Digital Twin Technology: The initiative will simulate 40 key sites, including EV chargers and other green technologies, using digital twins to optimize energy use and reduce CO2 emissions. 🔹Significant Emission Reductions: Predictions indicate a potential 63% reduction in CO2 emissions through the implementation of these digital solutions. 🔹Collaborative Effort: This project involves around twenty partners, showcasing the power of collaboration in driving technological advancements for environmental sustainability.
