Education System Alert: A Call for Change As a dedicated math teacher, it's deeply disappointing to see students struggling with basic concepts. Education should be more than just memorizing facts and passing exams—it's about truly understanding the material and applying it in real-life scenarios. Seeing college students unable to solve fundamental math problems is a wake-up call for us all. We need to shift our focus from rote learning to conceptual understanding. What changes do you think are necessary in our education system to address this issue? Who do you believe is responsible for this gap? Let's spark a conversation and work together to improve our education system! #EducationReform #TeachingMath #ConceptualLearning #EducationMatters #MathEducation #StudentSuccess #EducationalExcellence #FutureOfEducation

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the education system, and many students have lost a lot of learning. One of the areas where this impact is particularly evident is in math. Students have missed out on basic math facts, which makes it harder for them to do well in math as they get older. To make matters worse, this also makes it harder for them to prepare for standardized tests. To address this issue, it is crucial for students to catch up on their math skills as early as possible. Parents should consider hiring a tutor or working with their children to improve their timetables, fractions, and decimals. Doing so will make a significant difference in their academic and test prep success in the long run. #MathSkillsMatter #CatchUpOnMath #MathSuccessStartsEarly #LearningLoss #BasicMathFacts

Falling Math & Reading Scores - Are Schools Really to Blame? Beginning more than two decades ago, fingers have been pointed at our learning institutions, accusing them of ineffective teaching practices and not teaching our children reading, writing, and math effectively. Parents have thrown their hands up in surrender, trying to fathom the new maths articulated by the schools, and we’ve also been plagued by the beautiful gadgets and toys developed through the latest technologies that render attention spans useless. And, while schools, teachers, districts, and educational companies have worked hard and tried to develop methodologies that would enhance the student's learning experiences, they are still met with lagging scores on the assessments and rather dull and listless progress overall. So, despite all efforts (and realizing schools tend to be government programs, which are also plagued with inefficiencies) to stem the “learning loss,” the number of students unable to pass their benchmarks grows. Can we still say that it is the schools that are at fault? Or are there others, such as parents and community members, who also play a significant role in this drama? #lackofaccountability #studentaccountability #parentalaccountability #teacheraccountability #Communityaccountability #parentsandlearning #Communityandlearning #fallingmathscores #fallingreadingscores #learningloss #learningaccountability #alternativeeducation #studentbenchmarks #lowexpectations #Teaching #AlternativeTeaching #AltEd #AlternativeEducationPodcast #TeachingandLearning #AltEdPodcast #TeacherTraining #EducationalAccountability #StudentAssessment #Studentengagement

Math anxiety can start early. By middle school, many students begin to identify themselves as a “math person” – or not. We know from #NAEP survey data that students who report they are confident about math tend to do well in math. In 2022, teachers also reported feeling less inspired, more overworked, and lacking confidence to help students close knowledge and skill gaps in math. For decades, Alabama students have struggled in math achievement. But they’re working to change that. One district has started providing math coaches - not for students - but for teachers: https://lnkd.in/eKwuFS_7 #STEM #MathEd #Mathematics
