As we share our mental health journeys — the good, the bad, and the ugly — we begin to let down our walls and create safe spaces within our communities. Join me in fostering open conversations. #BebeMooreLegacy

Whether coming from the press, the vocal majority, or our collective unconscious, to continually pull the "mental health card" every time an incident occurs perpetuates stigma against the truly suffering. Here is a comment I made when those same sentiments came out of the then-President's mouth: "For those of us who have dedicated our lives to not only ameliorating the plight of individuals with mental health disorders but to also restore dignity and inclusion in the face of able-ism, racism, and stereoptypes, we should all decry such a flippant and ill-informed comment from the highest ranking official of the United States. Not only does it perpetuate the rampant targeting, oppression, and misunderstanding of persons suffering from behavioral health needs, but it attributes acts of hatred, violence, and intolerance to a body of people who would much rather seek relief than a rifle to resolve their issues. The more insidious nature of this rhetoric from government officials (who do not spend a day getting to encounter people with true mental health disorders) is the continued propagation of fear and rejection of people who need our compassion, understanding, and access to affordable treatment."

It is so hard when your own family cuts you out of their lives because you actually did what therapists teach you to do like set boundaries and not accept demeaning, mansplaining, harassment, condescension, gaslights and all the other things that caused our mental illness in the first place. No one will ever be allowed to control me and if I have to let them all go, then that is what I will do. These people don't even see the mental illness they are themselves suffering from.

My dream/goal is to one day write a book chronicling my mental health struggles/journey in raw detail in hopes that it might help people to feel more seen, heard, understood, and ultimately know they are not alone. I have no idea how to publish a book though so it’s pretty daunting!

I believe sharing reduces stigma and makes us better providers when we share our vulnerability.
