Kudos to the Dallas Abilities Expo. Video memories and takeaways from last year's event: Glory to God for the awe-inspiring resilience of incredible people, gracefully adapting to life's challenges. Their shining futures prove that strength knows no bounds. Explored Old and new courthouses, yet the missing places in between puzzle us. Most times, there's a mind-boggling lack of adaptive solutions for those systematically excluded. From climbing walls to adaptive Santa sleighs, every innovation echoes inclusivity and empowerment. Albert Pruitt, overcoming a wheelchair after a motorcycle accident, founded a company crafting adaptive water skis. Mark Wellman, in a wheelchair post-rock climbing accident, pioneered an adaptive rock climbing wall. These stories embody the power of adaptation. In a world where conventional family law has barriers, the stories of CLU "champions for children" stand as powerful beacons for innocent People. Madison and Chris faced the 'Continuance Confusion,' yet "Madison's Initiative" and "Madison's Time-Saver" brought a comforting embrace. Aron and Alayna navigated the 'Phone Time Predicament,' and "Alayna's Call Saver" sparked a profound shift, turning frustration into connection. Amidst these adaptive narratives, Ellie's story adds warmth, transcending distance through a book entitled Elizabithia her dad wrote for her and her brother. Corey and Christian, separated by fences or jurisdictional jigsaw puzzles, had a book entitled A Light in the Dark penned for them, bridging divides. These new narratives echo innovation and empathy in family law gaps, highlighting the need for compassion and connection. Jenan is the REI Coordinator at MSU Center for Community & Economic Development and was on the panel titled 'How Higher Education can Support Small and Medium Enterprises.' Interesting article by Jeffrey Rembaum on page 29 of this months FCAJ titled "A Differing Tale of Two Terminating Condominium's" In my estimation, there are generally three buckets that Florida Associations find themselves as it relates to perpetually increasing operating costs and the requirements of SB 4D and HB 1021. Bucket 1: Associations that have been conservative budgeting wise every year, funded reserves and have been proactive with making sure the building is in compliance with mandatory milestones/building safety etc. Bucket 2: Associations that have some work to do to meet requirements next year however have been working on it and should be fine by getting bank loans or special assessing directly from the unit owners. Bucket 3: Associations that not only have not been proactive with budgeting, reserves and keeping up with the milestones, but also where the vast majority of the unit owners have indicated that they cannot afford to keep the Association going. In the case of Bucket 3 Associations, it seems to me that there should be a more defined path for Associations to terminate legally. The question in reference to the article mentioned is which of the two routes will the courts take as minority hold outs take termination attempts to court and what is their liability to all the unit owners should things go south for not terminating.

"The new Brilliant Futures program will give two cohorts of Bradbury Heights students — from the classes of 2037 and 2038 — $1,000 each year from kindergarten through their senior year of high school if they remain in the Prince George’s school system. After the students graduate or earn an equivalent diploma, they can use their earnings to continue their education, buy a home or start a business, or roll the money over into a retirement fund. The savings account program is supported financially by the Greater Washington Community Foundation." A few thoughts: 💰 How do we start to differentiate between programs that are providing $10,000+ in capital vs. child savings accounts that are only providing a one-time deposit of $100? When Will Hall and I were dreaming up a Philadelphia CSA program we were trying to push the conversation away from just providing hope through small deposits, but how do we provide a meaningful amount of money to young people. 💸 This effort is completely funded by Private Philanthropy. So here to set a little reminder that there are over 1 Trillion in assets sitting in Private Philanthropy. 💲 This program still falls into the neo-paternalistic view that something needs to be earned or deserved, when in the past capital and land were given to white people without such barriers. 🏠 Would love to see us move away from restricting the funds to be used for education, homeownership etc. given 13 years from now the state of our economy might be very different? AND the conditions need to be right for these assets to become wealth-building opportunities.

Check out Urban Institute's recent summary of all the "Early Life Wealth Building Across the US" - the amounts at the age of graduation (18 for most) for the various Baby Bond and CSA programs across the country range from $145 to $21,000. How can we get more clear and nuanced in the difference between these varying product designs? How can we clean up our language to not call them ALL "wealth-building" accounts?
