This month our beloved Cirque Revolution is celebrating 15 years in business and this question is, by far, the most common query we receive on a day-to-day basis. 👆 . I used to get angry & take personal offence, and as the years went on, I came to realize that this "objection" is one of the MOST powerful #education opportunities we have! {I literally wait for this question to reveal itself now & genuinely love answering!} 💕 . As a dear friend & mentor James Nienhuis shared early in our career "Don't yell educate, don't yell educate." Ha ha I can still remember this sage advice from all those moons ago (Seated at an #ILEA gala dinner table I believe). Elisa Samantha and I still laugh whenever we have this exchange. 🤣 (Thank you James, it has served us well!). . Today, we lean into sharing the #story of having a high caliber service such as ours. We also amplify the #VALUE of doing shows like ours properly, which can have lifetime implications for the event producer. . Here is some background info our new customers are often surprised to learn... . 👌Our troupe members are made up of former & current Cirque du Soleil artists. IE the best in the world. . 👌Some of those same humans went to the Olympics or were part of Team Canada at one time or another. . 👌Our artists train their entire lives to execute one captivating #performance for you at your #event. The #investment in their continued training/development etc spans decades and also extends into today (school is never out for the pro!) . 👌The owners of CR are all former competitive-level artists who have been on stage themselves and who understand all of the nuances of #talent prep & show execution from lived experience (not from simply observing but from doing). . 👌Riggers who are skilled in "Human Loads" make up our team of backstage specialists. It's not sufficient to have non-circus riggers for obvious safety reasons. . 👌Everything from the expertly designed costumes, to the custom choreography to the insurance/admin/pre-production/production/post production work right down to the niche false eyelashes appropriate for aerial shows are factored into "cost." . On the flipside of all this, the negative implications of underpaying for these kinds of specialty services creates a feedback loop that can result in injury, loss, or...even worse! The truth is, what we do is dangerous and because of our expertise, experience and sixth sense/ years of honed capabilities we believe we are a solid choice for a a memorable #spectacle. . I remember when I saw a man eating fish... . . . . Blackpool Tower, 2011. The Circus was in town. An old, historic Circus. Turn of the century model. >Exotica. >Curiosities. >Dark. The Man eating fish was the one that really tickled me. A heavy cloth curtain bestowed wide words: 'MAN EATING FISH - BEWARE!' Some kind of prehistoric shark/Whale/Squid...Bloody Hell this is gonna be amazing! The curtain draws back quickly - and to our surprise and amusement there sat on a China Tea chest is a man eating fish - battered, salt & vinegar. The headline was so soaked in the arena of The Circus, most of us expected to see an exotic being - rather than a mundane being... >Were we duped? >What did we expect from a Circus? >Was the headline too good for the event? Fast forward >>> 2024 - Lytham St.Annes (A lovely place to die...) An unassuming human. Punting. Quietly, mostly. Wandering Centre stage from stage left. A pair of Jeans, Tee, Jumper (Reworked 348). Last month, the circus gave me the perspective I needed.   I saw two shows in June and left feeling inspired, almost giddy.   The audience gasped as people spun, balanced, swung on silks, bars, trampolines, and more. "This is their job," I thought. Having a nephew who is in the circus, I recognize the grueling schedule, the incredibly hard work. It's not all fun and games for sure… but there is something so special if you have ever seen one of these shows.   As time has passed since the last show, I realized that I'm still thinking about it. And thinking about that sort of job and how effortless it all looked - and what I took away from witnessing it.   1. The #confidence! The time, skill, dedication and showmanship undertaken to participate in the likes of cirque du soleil is awe-inspiring. All of that practice, falling down and getting back up-- the show must go on. Knowing you got this thing.   2. #Teamwork makes the dreamwork. Truly. The #trust we see between these folks on stage. They are literally entrusting their safety in each other. The slight nod indicating "I'm ready to toss you/catch you" - wow.   3. Everyone has a 'core skill' but no one does only one thing. The juggler is also a 'base' for acrobatics. The clown also sings. The tumbler also walks the tightrope. A #range of skills builds the team and has people work with each other in different ways.   4. Lastly (that I'll mention today) -- the #joy. Watching people in their element, with people they trust. It just felt GOOD to be in that energy.   All of these elements - confidence, teamwork, trust, skill-building, joy -- they are the pieces that make our work special, too.
