A great case study in both biological mechanisms and potential therapies for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. I was truly impressed with the research by Superior Medical Experts team and the therapeutic targets of BioScience Pharma (https://lnkd.in/g-3DGTrS) in two 'tandem' narrative reviews surrounding (1) Leukotrienes, microglia, and the pathways of persistent neuroinflammation, and (2) The pre- and clinical evidence on FLAP Inhibitors in neurodegenerative diseases. However, controlling the dose, time, and location of action remains a significant challenge in the application of said technologies. Small molecules offer a simple and cost-effective way to regulate biological processes. This review by authors at the Frankfurt Cancer Institute explores the various mechanisms by which the CRISPR/Cas9 machinery can be influenced with the help of small molecules. While the indirect influence on the machinery by small molecules is discussed, the primary focus is on direct interactions between small molecules and (engineered) Cas9 or sgRNA. These findings highlight the promise of small-molecule-mediated control of CRISPR/Cas9 activity for developing more precise, efficient, and controllable genome-editing strategies. With all of the hurdles to cross when approaching #DrugDevelopment using 3D cell models, there are scientists that are successfully using this approach in their therapeutic development studies, such as FNL scientist emeritus, Josip Blonder, MD. Blonder’s research suggests that 3D models are a promising way to bridge the gap between current cell culture and animal research and may even replace animal models in preclinical drug development. NEW: It's a condition that the NIH says is linked to the leading cause of death in the US, and now a CNY Biotech Accelerator client has released test results showing success in not just treating, but reversing atherosclerosis. Repair Biotechnologies announced today that its lipid nanoparticle (LNP)/messenger RNA (mRNA) therapy has rapidly reversed the progression of atherosclerosis during testing, showing as much as a 44% reduction in measures of liver fibrosis following eight weeks of CDP LNP-mRNA treatment. #Atherosclerosis is a common condition that develops when plaque builds up inside your arteries. According to the NIH, disease linked to atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the United States. Repair scientists say that their LNP-mRNA treatment has shown it can be effective for both the rare genetic condition of familial hypercholesterolemia as well as atherosclerosis in the broader population.
