What does generosity mean in Minnesota (and beyond)? ✨ $37 MILLION! That’s what we celebrated this year during GiveMN’s record-breaking Give to the Max! It’s a big number, and it’s a testament to the generosity of Minnesotans and the tireless efforts of the incredible nonprofits that work to make our communities better. At a time when philanthropy is evolving and organizations are navigating shifting donor landscapes, this milestone feels especially meaningful. It’s a reminder that individual giving remains critical—generosity, even in uncertain times, thrives when we show up for one another. For those in the thick of year-end fundraising: your work matters. It’s easy to get caught up in goals and deadlines, but every dollar raised, every story shared, and every relationship built is fueling your mission and creating impact. As we move through this season of giving, take a moment to celebrate the wins—big and small. Let’s continue to foster generosity, not just from donors but from ourselves, as we extend grace and gratitude to everyone working tirelessly to better our communities. Here’s to the resilience, creativity, and the boundless power of unity in diversity—bringing people together, inspiring change, and nurturing hope. You’re making a difference, and it shows. Thank you for all you do. #Nonprofits #Philanthropy #YearEndGiving

📊 Staturday: Did you know?💡Millennials are reshaping philanthropy with a focus on impact. 2 out of 3 millennial donors actively track the outcomes of the nonprofits they support—more than double the engagement seen in previous generations. 🚀 This generational shift reflects a new mindset: donors don’t just give; they invest in change and demand measurable results. 🌟 As Fidelity Charitable®’s Future of Philanthropy report highlights, clear impact reporting is essential to engage this new wave of donors. 🌊😁👍🏻 🔗 https://shorturl.at/x7WXM

"We can socialize the joy of giving as a value and connecting feature of our communities. It is not only impact. It is purpose. And this purpose can be shared." This quote from BWF CEO Joshua Birkholz's recent piece "We Believe in Everyday Donors. And We Choose to Defend Them." is a great reminder, especially at this time of year, about the work of fundraisers and nonprofit professionals alike. 🔍 How are we integrating the joy of giving and creating impact into Giving Tuesday and year end campaigns? 🙌 Are we stewarding gifts in ways that communicate impact and spark joy in donors? 🙋♂️ Have you shared what inspires you to give and the joy you get from giving with your people? The last few months of the year are always stressful, especially in philanthropy. Taking the time to feel and talk about the joy of giving offers each of a chance to focus on something uplifting.

The Tale of Two Donors In the past week, I reached out to two incredible supporters—both $150k+ lifetime givers to our organization. Their giving styles? Completely different. One gives $25k every November or December like clockwork. Despite my attempts—notes, voicemails, and more—I’ve never been able to connect with him. He doesn’t need or expect contact. The other donor spreads his gifts throughout the year. I can always reach him. We talk about his ranch, his cattle, and why he supports our mission. His giving is rooted in a relationship. Both donors create immense impact, but their needs couldn’t be more different. That’s the art of fundraising—recognizing what each donor values. For some, it’s a personal connection. For others, it’s simplicity and independence. Neither approach is wrong, just different. In this season of giving, remember: donors are people first. A one-size-fits-all strategy doesn’t work. Listen, learn, and personalize your approach—it’s the key to meaningful, lasting partnerships. I'd love to hear how you personalize donor relationships and/or share your thoughts on what you feel donors value most below! #fundraising #nonprofit #donorrelationships #giving #generosity #thankyou

The giving season is the perfect time to reflect on the power of saying thank you. For nonprofits, it’s not just a kind gesture—it’s a cornerstone of building lasting relationships with supporters. Research shows that a lack of acknowledgment is one of the top reasons donors stop giving. So, how can we all do better? Simple steps, like sending a heartfelt thank-you within a week of receiving a donation, can make a world of difference. As donor-communications expert Lisa Sargeant puts it, "Act fast, but with heart." A warm, personal note beats a cookie-cutter response every time. Let’s make this season about showing our gratitude to those who help us make a difference. And as we look ahead to 2025, join us in keeping the spirit of giving alive—together, we can inspire change year-round. As 2024 comes to an end and we look ahead to 2025, we're inspired by what we’ve accomplished together this past year and motivated to do even more in the year to come. This year, you’ve helped us support child well-being, ensure economic opportunity, grow community wealth, and equip community leadership. Philanthropy isn’t just about giving; it’s about why we give and who we are as a community. TBF's 2024 Annual Report shares some remarkable stories about our community of donors and the inventive and very personal ways in which they partner with the nonprofit organizations and causes they support. Alongside these stories, our Pathways to Equity video series captures our partnerships with nonprofit leaders and organizations and the collaborative work at the heart of creating a stronger, more equitable Boston. These snapshots collectively represent many of the people supported, impactful stories, and momentum made possible this year by continued support from our community — and people like you. Thank you for a meaningful year of impact. We look forward to continuing the progress we've made collectively to move equity and move Boston with your commitment in the new year: https://bit.ly/3OhZlZs

Major gifts are transformational.... They empower nonprofits to dream bigger, impact deeper, and create long-lasting change. Yet, major gifts aren’t just about the size of the donation they’re about creating a shared vision between the donor and the organization. Nonprofit leaders, ask yourself: Are we approaching major gift donors with a vision that inspires? Are we giving them a path to engage, contribute, and witness the impact of their support? When you approach donors with this mindset, you’re not just asking for funds, you’re inviting them to be part of something truly meaningful. Be a #joydealer for your donors. Money moves your mission, but it's meaningful relationships with people that sustain it. #majorgifts #philanthropy

🚄 Donor-Advised Funds: The ‘Bullet Train’ of Philanthropy With over $250 billion in assets and growing, donor-advised funds (DAFs) have become one of the most significant forces shaping modern giving. For nonprofits, the rise of DAFs isn’t just a trend—it’s a call to adapt and innovate. In my latest Forbes Nonprofit Council article, I share three strategies to help nonprofits harness the power of DAFs in 2025: 1️⃣ Build Relationships with DAF Advisors: These professionals are the bridge to donors—anonymous or not—helping to deepen connections and secure repeat gifts. 2️⃣ Mark Your Calendar for DAF Day 2025 (October 9): Much like Giving Tuesday, this is a prime opportunity to inspire action among donors with funds ready to give. 3️⃣ Go Beyond the First Gift: Simple actions like saying thanks and gathering insights can lead to recurring contributions, higher gift amounts, and even legacy giving. DAFs are reshaping philanthropy with their flexibility, simplicity, and scale. As fundraisers, it’s our job to meet this moment and turn these opportunities into lasting impact. Read the full article on Forbes to learn how to hop on the DAF "bullet train": https://lnkd.in/dQmt6KJK #DAFs #Philanthropy #FundraisingInnovation #NonprofitLeadership

Nonprofit leaders, what's your organization's #newyearresolution? Do you have a plan to achieve it this year? As a fundraiser, the second half of the fiscal year is a critical time for closing major gifts. To ensure 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 organization hits its fundraising goals, consider focusing on the "𝟰 𝗥'𝘀". • 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: Look at your donor pipeline and identify top prospects who can still be cultivated this fiscal year. Have you scheduled those key meetings yet? • 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: The holidays are a natural reset point. Reconnect with donors who may have gone quiet in the first half of the year and re-engage them with your mission. • 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: As I mentioned in a recent post, SMART goals are essential. Align your team around specific, time-bound objectives to make the most of these next six months. • 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: Don’t forget to thank your existing major donors! Showing gratitude can lead to increased support and deepen long-term relationships. This is a great time to regroup, refocus, and finish the year strong. How is your organization planning to make the most of the second half of the fiscal year? I’d love to hear your thoughts below! #nonprofitfundraising #majorgifts #philanthropy #nonprofitstrategy

Trust-based philanthropy doesn’t start in the right place: Trust is only one piece of the puzzle for how philanthropic partners can achieve the most impact There’s been a lot of discussion the past few years on trust-based philanthropy, a model that seeks to shift power dynamics by providing fewer funding restrictions and putting more trust in nonprofit leaders. While fundraisers debate its merits and others highlight its successes, one crucial point often goes unspoken: Trust is not the starting point—it’s the outcome of a deeper, more intentional process. http://dlvr.it/THMM3n
