At our last home match, Deaf performer Clint Atkins from Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing joined us to perform the National Anthem. We also recognized Mike Knott, Chair of the Board of Directors for Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, as our Hero of the Match. Bridges offers programs and services from birth through Senior Year, all for free to the deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing communities. We’re proud to partner with Bridges to feature an ASL performance of the National Anthem at all future home Nashville SC matches.

Great deaf awareness training session today with The Association of Lifetime Lawyers
Join Robert Morgan for our next masterclass on Monday 5th February. Robert will provide deaf awareness training and aim to promote greater awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by the deaf community. Approximately 70,000 people in the UK are born profoundly deaf or become deaf before they can speak. Being deaf has a significant impact on a person’s ability to navigate a society and a legal system designed by and for hearing people. Becoming more deaf aware can make a big difference and help remove the daily barriers faced by the deaf community. This event is only available to our members and must be pre-booked online, register here: https://lnkd.in/eWej2ppW If you're interested in becoming a member, head here and learn about the full range of benefits: https://lnkd.in/eK6KWS4r

CODA • Founder of P-X-P: Access in Sports • 2024 Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award Honoree • Professional Sports ASL Interpreter seen with NHL, Stanley Cup, Seattle Reign FC, & Milwaukee Bucks •
In honor of Deaf Awareness Month, I implore people who work in sports to start taking the Deaf and hard of hearing community seriously and provide ACCESS. It’s not a gimmick. It’s not a quick grab. It’s just ACCESS. Everyone should have it, so why not build it in sports that has the ability to unite, connect, and inspire. Don’t know where to begin: we, P-X-P: Access in Sports create a roadmap and you can choose what services you would like to start with and how we can build access over time. What better time to start than during Deaf Awareness Month. Day ✋of Deaf Awareness Month. 🤟🏼

📢 Today marks the start of Deaf Awareness Week! Did you know that approximately 15% of Deafblind individuals use British Sign Language (BSL)? However, when they lose their sight, they often struggle to access appropriate sight loss services that cater to their Deafness. That's why we're calling on the Scottish government to adopt the Nordic definition of deafblindness. By integrating vision and hearing loss support, we can ensure a more comprehensive approach. 🌟 Join us in defining deafblindness for a more inclusive future! 📝 Sign the declaration: https://lnkd.in/eaUHkvsM

Being aware of your surroundings is the first step towards being a leader. Taking a small action makes an impact.
Awareness and what you do with it can be a profound and powerful thing. During her acceptance speech for best actress in 1979, Jane Fonda’s role in “Coming Home’' moved her to acknowledge the disabilities of the deaf on a very big and public platform—the Academy Awards, which didn’t offer closed captioning at the time. A few years later in 1982, The National Captioning Institute implemented live-captioning for the first time at the year’s Academy Awards, nonetheless!

If you are Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, or know someone who is, take the time to take part of DeafCounts and ensure that you are accounted for! The goal of DeafCounts is to find out where the members of the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind community are and how they communicate. This information will be used to better the emergency response for our community. Fill out the form at DeafCounts.com or scan the QR Code below to give your responses and do your part to help your community! All it takes is a few minutes of your time to answer four questions; Name, Email, Street Address and your preferred method of communication. Please help to spread the word by sharing this project with other people in your community. Have questions or issues filling out the form? Contact Taylor Anderson at tanderson@dhcc.org
