My observations on how to be a valued employee: Note - I have posted this several times but it has disappeared - not sure why! I occasionally hear stories about people unable to find a job, even in today’s hot U.S. job market with the lowest unemployment rates in the past 50 years (see above chart). I hope that these thoughts are useful. They are based on my experience as a pathologist and attorney over the past 40 years. I changed some facts to preserve privacy: * I worked for a small group filling in for a pathologist on vacation. Another pathologist pulled me aside (I don’t remember why), and said: “You have to make yourself valuable to the people here. They are only hiring you to make their life easier. If you are not doing that you won’t be invited back.” * One pathologist asked me for help looking for a job. I could not find any reason why nobody wanted him. But he worked for a prominent pathologist whose recommendation should have landed him many jobs. Obviously (to me), he was not being recommended. Why not? I am not sure he ever asked. It may be difficult, but it helps to ask your boss what shortcomings you have so you can try to fix them. Of course, you have to try to fix them. More at https://lnkd.in/eXWq6UnR

Psychologists: Don't Let Paperwork Delay Your Dream Job! 📒 In my daily conversations with early career psychologists eager to land their dream roles, a common hurdle I've noticed is the delay in applying for a Medicare provider number. This crucial step is often overlooked until the last minute, potentially putting your ideal job on hold. Why is this important? The Medicare provider number is a unique identifier which enables psychologists to bill for Medicare-funded services provided under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). Having your Medicare provider number ready not only accelerates your hiring process but also ensures that you can begin delivering care and billing for services immediately upon starting your new position. Here’s what you can do: 🕓 Apply Early: As soon as you meet the eligibility criteria, start your application! Don't wait for a job offer to begin this process. ☝ Stay Informed: Understand the requirements and timeline for obtaining your provider number. The earlier you start, the better as this can sometimes take over a month to be processed. 🤝 Seek Advice: If you're unsure about the process, reach out to colleagues who have recently navigated it, or consider professional guidance. Let’s streamline your path to success by being proactive about the necessary administrative steps. Your dream job doesn’t need to wait! Feel free to connect with me for further advice or to discuss how you can better prepare for your next opportunity. #Psychology #MedicareProvider #CareerAdvice #HealthcareProfessionals

I have been talking to psychologists as well as mental health organizations and Start-ups and here are some of the ways psychologists can earn more: 1. Upgrade your skills- As Sumer Soni rightly pointed out, upgrade your knowledge and skills. This can give you a competitive advantage. You can actually negotiate and demand a higher pay from organisations if you continuously upgrade yourself. 2. Entrepreneurship- This is indeed one of the best ways to ensure that you get paid for what you deserve. Further, this can open up opportunities for other fellow psychologists to get fairly compensated. 3. Freelance at flexible mental health platforms- While entrepreneurship is amazing, it's important to understand that not everyone would have the aptitude or even willingness to take it up. Hence, freelancing is a great way to ensure that you get multiple clients from different organisations at a cost you feel appropriate according to your skills and experience. 4. Networking- There are various organisations and opportunities that compensates psychologists fairly, however access to the same can be difficult and this is where networking can help. Sometimes, just showing up opens a lot of opportunities. 5. Marketing- No, marketing is not just creating reels on Instagram. There are many other ways, you can reach out to people. If you aren't comfortable with showing face on Instagram, you can write blogs. If you don't like long form writing, you can simply put your views on LinkedIn and Twitter. If you don't want to be active on social media, you can create a professional SEO optimised website. If a professional website seems expensive, you can create a notion or a crafts profile that will help you get referrals from other clients, doctors and Therapists. Of course, a broader macro-economic and social change is needed to counter the pay gap, but it will take time. And meanwhile, these small efforts can help. What do you think?
Pursuing MPhil in Clinical Psychology at IHBAS | Qualified UGC NET, MP SET 2023, & GATE 2024 | Looking to utilize learning opportunities on the way...
Over and over I am seeing vacancy notifications for the post of clinical psychologist with the salary ranging anywhere between 35k to 45k? What is this? A joke? 3 years of bachelor's, 2 years of Master's, and 2 years of Mphil, 7 years it takes and all that for what like 40k? Are you kidding me? What do people think a clinical psychologist does? Talk for an hour, get a survey filled, speak a few comforting words, and take notes like they show in movies? This is a disrespect to your skills, knowledge, and competency. Next time someone offers you this, you must say “I am way more worthy than this.” There are ample opportunities and all you gotta do is upgrade yourself.

How do you deal with the imposter syndrome that sets in after a hiatus in your employment history? I recently had to take a personal gap year due to medical related issues, and during my job search, I can't help but feeling like I don't "belong" in the industry anymore. I fear that I have forgotten how to function in a corporate setting, and I struggle with feeling left behind in a sense. I have lost my confidence in myself. For anyone who has been through this, how do you overcome this feeling? What steps do you take to make sure that you feel like you're still in the loop and desirable to employers? #employment #gapyear #impostersyndrome #jobs #jobsearch #confidence

What is the best avenue when trying to find the proper path for employment after a long break (medical). When looking at the posting and see the experience desired for the position does that just mean over all or with they take a step back because of the break of employment. When I say break I mean years.

Wish you had the opportunity to ask me a question? Think of this as me giving a speech and you simply walking up afterward to ask a follow-up question in the banquet hall. But you don't have to wear a blazer or eat bad buffet food. I'm here, and I'm listening. I really want to talk to you guys about our job transitions course called 90 Day Notice, because I'm super excited about it and how it can help doctors just like you strategize and execute on a job change. I'll also talk about the biggest things I see when doctors change jobs and what they forget to do. Come with questions. I'll do my best to answer. If you want to ask something else other than job transitions, I'll try to get to as many questions as I can in one hour. When do you get a free hour with a healthcare lawyer? Don't miss this! Entrepreneur | Project Management | Business Operations | Technology | SaaS | Implementation | Account Manager | Relationship Manager
Have you ever had technology play a joke on you? Well, that's what happened to me when I tried out a website that applies to jobs for you. I filled out everything, SPECIFIED the type of work I wanted, and woke up to applications sent for nursing, rehabilitation specialist, therapist, etc. 😂😂😂 Despite the mix-up, it's great to see how technology is changing the job search process. Have you had any similar experiences? Share in the comments! #jobsearch #technology #funny #jobs

To lie or not to lie… that is the question. I applied for a dental front office position yesterday and one the screening questions was “have you had x amount of years experience in a dental front office position?” Well. The answer is no. My resume wouldn’t reflect the 8 years experience I have in a *dental* setting. But it would reflect that I have experience in a *healthcare* setting. So what do I put? Clearly, my resume doesn’t show that I’ve had dental experience in an office? But 99% of the requirements match because of my healthcare background. Which would I choose? If I lie, my resume gets thrown out. If I tell the truth, my resume gets thrown out. Despite being MORE than qualified for the position. A catch 22. Employers, do better.

Trauma-Informed Therapist | Clinical Supervisor | Group Private Practice Owner | Counselor Educator | Consultant, Trainer & Advocate for Culturally Responsive Mental Health Practices
Clinical supervisors, for your next supervision session, repeat after me: "Has someone talked with you openly about the financial aspects of this profession? If not, how would you feel using some of our time to talk about this aspect of your professional development and growth?" (Consent first, before proceeding!) 🙂 "What is your current understanding of the financial aspects of this profession?" "How comfortable do you feel negotiating? Would you like to use your time to practice and receive feedback?" "What are your general feelings about money, emotional labor, and compensation as a therapist?" "How confident do you feel about budgeting, saving, and understanding retirement options (especially as an independent contractor)?" "I would gladly review your upcoming job offer, resume, or contract, providing you with feedback on industry standards and suggesting potential adjustments you could make." Your supervisees deserve so much, but you already knew that! #financialgoals #finacialliteracy #financialeducation #clinicalsupervision #professionaldevelopment #professionalgrowth #therapists #mentalhealth #mentalhealtheducation

Certified Systemic Coach and owner at "The Health Matrix Success Navigator" as well as Medical Director of Laboratory and Department Chair of Surgery at HCA Healthcare Physician Services Group
4moOne of the often overlooked or dismissed truth is illustrated by this German statement: you cannot stick a hand in a naked man’s pocket ! What does that mean ? If you don’t value yourself , you will only attract employers you don’t value you either ! If you don’t know your value , nobody else will ! Soooooo the million dollar question: HOW do you value yourself ? That’s a bit of a personal growth journey and not simply a mind decision : ok now I value myself - if your energy does not match it , you are not congruent and will atttact likewise . Start with a good personal growth coach .
