The energy sector has a particularly high impact on nature and biodiversity loss, largely due to pollution, terrestrial use change, GHG emissions and threats to species and their habitats. Yet, many are now beginning to make the case for change, and using data insights to unearth the business opportunities that come with getting started now. Today, at Energise Landscape Ltd, our CEO Sebastian Leape shared some real-life, practical examples of how more energy leaders can begin to get started on their nature journey, and how Natcap can help. As #ClimateWeekNYC #COP16 and #COP29 approach, it’s the perfect time to ask: is nature also a key part of your sustainability strategy?

The people behind the SDG wheel are back to help us communicate the biodiversity goals in a similarly impactful way. Everyday, I see the importance of crisp communication around climate and nature - to build momentum, credibility, trust and motivate action. The Biodiversity Plan does just that - helps me distill a complicated and dry document to more straightforward messaging. GOAL A: Protect and Restore 🌱 GOAL B: Prosper with Nature 🦎 GOAL C: Share Benefits Fairly ⚖ GOAL D: Invest and Collaborate 🤝 What do you think? [On the '#SDG wheel': In 2015, Jakob Trollbäck and Christina Rüegg Grässli of The New Division created the communication language for the Sustainable Development Goals. Today, their simple words and colorful symbols are used wherever sustainability is discussed.] #biodiversity #kunmingmontreal #cop16 #globalgoals #biodiversityplan

There is no blueprint to getting to #netzero for an organization - we just have to get started! Each year Elsevier publishes the lessons we learn as we continue to make progress towards our commitment to be net zero by 2040. Over the past year my brilliant colleagues have done a great job in launching our supplier carbon reduction program to get a grip on Scope 3 emissions. We have also seen how science and research underpins the global transition, with a focus on cross cutting topics such as biodiversity. And of course, the realization of how important it is to work together as no one gets to net zero alone. If #COP16 at #Cali can help dispel the myth that business should focus on only “direct” and “proximate” corporate impacts on nature and biodiversity versus their often bigger “indirect” and “distant” impacts through GHG, water use, etc, that would be a huge win for #nature and #biodiversity and the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework - example below Susana Muhamad M Sanjayan Jennifer Morris Kirsten Schuijt Tony Goldner
"Energy utilities technically are not... destroying any forests or damming any wetlands... but they have huge footprints because of their GHG emissions and water consumption." As we build up to COP 16, listen to GIST Impact Founder and CEO Pavan Sukhdev explain the difference between direct and indirect impact drivers. Watch the full webinar to learn more about the different ways of measuring biodiversity footprints and the data-driven solutions available to help investors, lenders and corporates take nature into account. 🌍 Earth Month continues! 🌍 Nature and biodiversity are increasingly being recognised as critical resources to fighting the climate crisis, and essential to protect. Last year, global leaders laid the foundations for protecting biodiversity and our ecosystems with the signing of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) at COP15. 📜 Target 15 of the GBF commits Governments to taking measures to encourage and enable businesses to, among other things, report on nature-related risks and impacts – meaning that for businesses, nature is rightly being pushed up the agenda. 📊 This has led to Science Based Targets for Nature (SBTN) 🎯. These go beyond climate action and cover four areas – freshwater ⛵, biodiversity 🦋, land 🏝 and oceans 🌊. Using SBTs for nature will help businesses to their tackle carbon output whilst having a positive effect on nature, reducing both climate and nature-related risks. 📰 Check out this blog produced by our sustainability team on how your business can set science-based targets and why nature and biodiversity are becoming an increasingly important part of sustainability strategies. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eP6bEUMW #EarthMonth2024

Dean - Earth Commons, Georgetown University's Institute for Environment and Sustainability, Laudato Si' Professor of Biology and Environment
In my latest op-ed in Earth.Org, I discuss the critical moment we're at with climate change and biodiversity loss. We've hit a year with temperatures 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The time to act urgently was years ago. At #COP28, despite a large turnout, the final declarations fell short of the ambitious steps needed for a real energy transition. This reflects a broader issue: solving our environmental crisis goes beyond politics or technology—it requires a profound change in how we perceive and interact with nature. We have to embrace ecological interconnectedness—and belonging—if we're going to heal the planet. Give it a read 👇 https://lnkd.in/eH4sYCMk

Many people ask us: what is green energy? what is net zero emissions? Recently, we've been asked: what is biodiversity and what does it mean to you? Biodiversity is an important issue that doesn't get talked about enough. Ahead of the UN Summit on Biodiversity held in 2020, 64 world leaders set the 30x30 goal, a promise to protect 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030 and end biodiversity crisis. If we can protect 30% of oceans and lands by then, we can stem extinctions and sequester and get the planet-warming carbon that has been stuck for 200 years out of the atmosphere. _ ◼ O'right becomes the world’s first zero carbon certified beauty company in 2020 ◼O'right is the only Asian SME to be invited to speak at UN 2021 World Biodiversity Summit (COP15) ◼O'right is announced as official Summit Partner for UN 2021 World Climate Summit (COP26) #cop26 #worldclimatesummit #unclimatechangeconference #worldclimatesummit #theinvestmentcop #cop15 #unbiodiversityconference #cbdcop15 #biodiversity #zerocarbon #zeroco2 #sustainable #sustainability #carbonneutral lowcarbonconsumption #carbonneutrality #zeroimpact #TogetherGreener #oright

Reducing energy consumption in our production processes is not merely a cost-saving measure; it's a deliberate stride towards minimizing our carbon footprint. This initiative is a crucial aspect of our sustainability strategy, reflecting our dedication to environmental conservation. By leveraging energy-efficient technologies and practices, we are not only contributing to a healthier planet but also setting a precedent in the industry for responsible manufacturing. It's a commitment to a future where every watt saved amplifies our collective efforts against climate change. #dtgprints #unique #casualchic

Now at Cefriel, PoliMi, Milan. To address the twin transition blue (digital) and green (environmental sustainability) we need to move from a short term view to a long term view and from a sectorial view to a systemic view. Hence, CO2 is not the only cause of climate change, it is only one factor among many others systemically related (e.g. decradation of soil fertility, urbanisation of wildland, deforestation, desertification, combined gaseous emissions, chemical pollution that disturb ecosystems). Digitalization is a tool for framing such a complex environmental system
