How I cured my own "analysis paralysis" as a founder: I focused on doing one thing REALLY well. Catalyst XL has always been working to expose students to the world of entrepreneurship. But there are a million ways to approach that, and we were going to take all of those approaches at once. But with limited resources, I realized we were setting ourselves up for failure. We needed to find a "silver bullet" way to solve the problem, rather than the scattered "shotgun" approach we were going to take. So we focused on what we do best: startup internships. For students, internships are an elegant way to gain a deeper understanding of the startup ecosystem, build a network, develop their entrepreneurial mindset, and work with incredible mentors. That's not to say we ONLY help students get startup internships. But everything else we do (education, community engagement) is to enhance our ability to help students in this way. So if you're struggling with that type of paralysis, the solution might be pretty simple: focus on something that 1: you know you can do and 2: you know solves the problem. #entrepreneurship #startups #venture #innovation #tech #builders #founders #internship #opportunity #experience #founders #students

3 Steps to securing a startup internship: 1. Find a startup that's doing things you care about 2. Show them how much you care 3. Tell them how you can help So rather than go for the resume boost, see if you can find a startup solving a problem that you yourself would want to solve. Then reach out and let them know why you think their work is interesting and that you'd like to learn more. And finally, make a proposal about how you can be valuable to the team. For deep dives on how to execute all three of these steps, check out "A Student's Guide to Startup Internships" linked below. #startups #entrepreneurship #venture #collegestudents #universitystudents #internship #opportunity #experience #learning #content #college

"How do you get experience without experience?" By knowing where to look. Inexperienced students always start by recruiting for big companies that unfortunately don't value their drive and ambition. Then they wonder why nothing's working for them. If that's you, here's the truth: it's not because of your lack of skills. You're just targeting the wrong opportunities. You need to pitch yourself to someone who understands that your curiosity and determination are worth 1000 skills. You likely won't find that person in corporate. But you will find them in startup teams. I've watched students create life-changing opportunities with startups. But I've also watched hundreds of others try and fail because they don't know how to navigate the space. That's why we just launched the most comprehensive resource ever created on getting startup internships on Skool. If you comment your email, I'll send you the link with more info + the opportunity to sign up! p.s. if you have any questions/need advice on this topic, always feel free to message me or Nohely Diaz Ontiveros who runs this with me! #internship #startup #entrepreneurship #venturecapital #collegestudents #university #annnouncement #success #experience #jobs #recruiting

“How dedicated should I be to my startup?” As student founders, we often find ourselves juggling various roles and facing tremendous uncertainty. Initially, I viewed options as "either/or," rather than "yes/and." I put all my eggs in one basket, betting on myself to get into the Summer Accelerator Program without a Plan B for this summer. The result? ❓ We were deferred in the early decision. 💔 Now, the question is: How can I sustain myself? Ever since the age of 16, just one year after immigrating to the U.S., I've worked every summer to save up money for the upcoming school year. This decision, hanging in the air, really knocked me out of the La La Land of the startup bubble I was in. 🫧 I've realized responsibilities don’t have to exclude each other. Often, at the beginning of our journey, we can't afford to limit our choices to "either/or." 💼 So, I'm entering the job market! 💼 💌 Beyond sending applications online, I’d like to ask my network (you!)👤: if you know of any internship opportunities or have heard of someone who does. Please feel free to message me or comment below. 💌 Work is a partnership! I offer my skills and experience to take tasks off your plate so that you can focus on higher-stakes priorities. With over a year of running a startup and leading a team of six, I'm looking forward to an opportunity to collaborate and contribute. Here are lessons learned for all my entrepreneur friends out there: 📚 1️⃣ As much as passion and dreams can sound promising, they don't put a roof over your head. Find ways to fund your passion. 2️⃣ For those of us who need to support ourselves financially while pursuing entrepreneurship, your well-being is the foundation of everything you strive to create.❤️ 🔔Just a reminder, everyone who does great things is in the face of great fear and uncertainty. #startupjourney #jobs #internships #network #ask #lessonslearned #entrepreneuership

For all entrepreneurial undergraduates, Catalyst XL is waiting for your application 📜 We are a global community of student innovators making waves in the startup ecosystem. We partner with fast-growing startups to get YOU a meaningful internship with an impactful company. But why do we do it? To show students an alternative to "the system". We believe students deserve more high-responsibility opportunities to do work that they genuinely care about. Rather than sit in spreadsheets from 9-5 every day at some big-name company, our students typically take on much more involved roles with our partnered startups. So instead of chasing opportunities to be employee #55478, you could work with Catalyst and be employee #1. So if you're an undergraduate student with entrepreneurial experience and that sounds interesting to you, comment your email and I'll send you the application! #students #builders #founders #startups #entrepreneurship #collegestudents #internship #opportunity #innovation #impact

4 reasons you should consider interning at a startup: 1. You'll be handed more responsibility. On a small team, your influence over decision-making and the success of the startup is significantly more than it would be at any big company. 2. You'll build meaningful relationships with influential people. The startup ecosystem is wildly connected. So not only will you be able to work with an incredible founding team at the startup you intern with--you'll also likely meet countless other accomplished leaders. 3. Everyone is looking for self-starters. Corporate or not, all employers look for hires who have some experience building something. 4. You'll make more possible. Internships at big companies have rigid structures around what happens post-internship. With startups, anything can happen. In the best case-scenario, you could even be brought on as C-suite. Hopefully that gives some insight into why we do what we do at Catalyst XL. If any of the above sounds interesting to you, check out the link in the comments to see how we can help you secure opportunities with startups. #internship #startup #student #collegestudents #opportunity #experience #leadership #venture #innovation #entrepreneurship

Criteria for picking a startup to intern with ✔ - Your Interests: Are they solving a problem you care about? - The Business: Does the business make sense? (what they do, how they do it, and how they make money) - Seriousness: Are the founders genuinely committed? - Culture Fit: Do you get along with the founders? There are some more nitty gritty details to look into, but if the answer to those 4 questions is a big "Yes", most of those details can easily be worked out. However, it's still worth addressing: How do you know if they can pay you or not? There's a number of factors that go into this. Some are the company's stage, how they make money, what type compensation you're willing to accept (equity, commission, salary), and so on. Since I don't have room in a Linkedin post to dive into all of those considerations, I've linked my free guide to startup internships below! Good luck and feel free to DM me with any questions! #entrepreneurship #startups #tech #growth #innovation #internshipopportunity #career #jobs #recruiting #collegestudents

How I Landed a VC Internship in SF with a 2.4 GPA and No VC Experience as an International Student 1. Do or Learn About Cool Stuff and Share It The key is to continuously learn and document your journey. For instance, I began by blogging about emerging trends in the VC industry and my take on recent startups. Sending these blogs to potential employers helped me stand out. 2. Be Founder-Friendly In the VC world, the dynamics between investors and founders is crucial. Show your potential by getting involved in entrepreneurial activities. I shared stories of my friend's startups and my involvement in small projects to demonstrate my understanding of founder needs. 3. Keep Knocking on Doors Most VC internships aren't listed publicly. The opportunity I got wasn't on LinkedIn or Handshake. This means you need to reach out directly to various funds. Start small, network, ask for referrals, and let your connections snowball. This approach significantly increases your chances. ->The most important, Don't Give Up Rejections are part of the process. Keep trying, keep improving, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself. Your next big break could be just one email away. Best of Luck! PS- Feel free to reach out if you have questions or need advice on navigating the VC landscape. #VCinternship #CareerAdvice #InternationalStudent #Networking #Entrepreneurship #StartupLife #SuccessStory #JobHunt #Persistence
