In the field of social services, behavioral health, and criminal justice, there are days when advocating for the best outcomes for youth is incredibly challenging. Recently, I’ve experienced moments where, despite my best efforts, the outcomes did not align with what I believed was in the best interest of those I serve. These experiences have reinforced for me the importance of integrity and staying grounded in the principles of balanced and restorative justice. It’s crucial for all of us working within the juvenile justice system to regularly reflect on our roles and responsibilities. Are we consistently working to ensure fairness, rehabilitation, and opportunities for growth? Are we staying true to the values that prioritize long-term positive outcomes for the youth, their families, and the broader community? In this complex and demanding field, it’s easy to become caught up in the day-to-day challenges. Yet, it’s our integrity that ensures we never lose sight of the greater purpose: to help young people repair harm, take accountability, and move toward a brighter future. Let’s refocus on what really matters and continue advocating for a justice system that promotes rehabilitation and healing. #JuvenileJustice #ProfessionalIntegrity #RestorativeJustice #YouthAdvocacy #BalancedApproach #FocusOnHealing

Youth across the country are facing unprecedented challenges, from community violence to mental health issues and school absences. NAPAC - the National Association for People Abused in Childhood recently undertook significant research into ‘survivors as stakeholders’, which established ten positive outcome themes that survivors had told them they wanted. The two outcomes most commonly mentioned in the research were support and justice. This survey focuses on justice and what that looks like in practice. If you are an adult survivor of childhood abuse, take this anonymous, confidential survey today and have your voice heard. #survey #justice #support #childhoodtrauma #childhoodabuse #research

a good step forward
**Exciting News** With the hard work of our board member Harry Bruell and the support of many others including California State Senator Hart, California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) and Emotions Matter, bill CA 3077 was unanimously approved by the CA Public Health and Safety Commission. CA 3077 works to decrease stigma and increase resources available for those diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) within the criminal justice system. This bill would add BPD to the list of diagnoses that judges may consider in evaluating if defendants are incompetent to stand trial. Next stop: the CA Senate Appropriations Committee. Thank you again to all those who sent in support letters!
