On Thursday night, many of us were captivated by the breathtaking aurora that illuminated the skies across the county. At Peterborough Rape Crisis, we were fortunate to capture these stunning images, but what resonated most with us is that this beautiful display coincided with World Mental Health Day. At Peterborough Rape Crisis Care Group, we stand firm in our unwavering support for all survivors. Our mission is to end sexual violence, and a crucial part of this is challenging the damaging rape myths and victim-blaming attitudes that perpetuate rape culture. It’s important to remember: Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Whether someone consents at first or chooses to visit someone’s home, this does not mean they are obligated to engage in sexual activity. There’s often a narrative suggesting false allegations are common, particularly when high-profile individuals are involved, but this simply isn’t true—false reports are incredibly rare. Initiatives like the Pink Taxi service are an empowering step toward ensuring safer travel options. By offering female-only drivers and taking extra care to ensure passengers are safely inside their homes before departing, the Pink Taxi service creates a more secure and comfortable experience for women and girls.
