Delighted to hear that Caroline Lucas recently received the edie Lifetime Achievement Award, and in her speech, she outlined three ways for businesses to champion sustainability. Her advice is timely and relevant, especially as the world continues to grapple with climate change. Here are the three ways: 1️⃣ Don't adapt, lead the change. It is not enough to rely on regulations alone. Instead, businesses need to take on sustainability leadership by actively doing good. 2️⃣ Give the future a voice in boardrooms. Companies like Faith In Nature and The Better Business Network have representatives of nature on their boards, which is a positive step towards more sustainable business decisions. 3️⃣ Escape the trap of endless growth. We need alternatives to GDP and perpetual growth, and instead, we should focus on indicators like well-being and nature restoration. Uncertainty plagues US direction on sustainability. While many business leaders would prefer to avoid the political risk they see in calling for more decisive direction from the U.S. on sustainability, standing aside is riskier than engaging. In the second installment in our two-part series, BSR President and CEO Aron Cramer offers the business case for companies to call for American engagement in support of a more sustainable world and discusses ways for them to exert influence—through actions, credible communication, and advocacy. #2024election #sustainablebusiness #sustainablefuture #externalaffairs
