Oakland University faculty have the OU chapter of the AAUP on their side. Faculty have held the line for decades through collective bargaining. Are you an OU student, OU alumi, or are you OU parents? Did you know that you benefit from having a higher percentage of full-time faculty teaching you classes than most US Universities? Full-time professors who are themselves experts who add to the most recent knowledge that is taught across all programs. That is only true because the OU-AAUP fight to keep a formula that requires a minimum number of full-time equivalent faculty per student. Without things like that, many US universities have become 90% taught by part-time contingent faculty that often do not even have an office to meet with students and who have no way to contribute to the frontier of knowledge in the subjects you pay tuition to learn. An old saying has remained true for many decades in higher education. The working conditions of the faculty are the learning conditions of the students. :)

We have been working through a number of applications for approval of enterprise agreements on behalf of our education clients. Multi-enterprise bargaining presents many challenges, especially considering the volume of agreements and participating employers involved. It is as a commendable achievement to secure the approval of seven education related enterprise agreements in a short period of time. We extend our gratitude to the Catholic schools who entrusted CER as their bargaining representative. Additionally, we appreciate the employees who actively participated by casting their votes during the ballots, ensuring their voices were heard. You can view the approved agreements here https://lnkd.in/g5iXVAqe #agreements #enterpriseagreement #workingtogether #employmentlaw

Transforming clinics into spaces where teams feel valued, work runs smoothly, and you achieve your vision for exceptional care.
When I started teaching in 2005, I wasn't a fan of the teacher's union, so I did this... I joined my school's union executive! I figured that I needed to learn more about the union to have a fully formed opinion, so I suspended my disbelief and jumped in with both feet. I was the school's Grievance Rep for 4 years. Here are 3 things I learned: 1. Most conflicts in the workplace were usually rooted around crossing boundaries. 2. The Labour Act defines how unions act & respond (and failing to respond puts union leaders at risk of being fined, or worse). 3. Some Principals were (and still are) horrible at setting proper expectations with staff, which led to disarray on the staff. I'm grateful for this experience as it eventually set me on the path of where I am today. I received this award years later (in 2013) after I was nominated for my participation in extra-curricular activity... ...which ironically burned me out and led me to leave and rejoin the corporate world. My opinion on unions hasn't changed, but I... - learned a ton - met some great people - planted the seeds for Human Scaffold 10 years ago! Did you ever voluntarily get involved with something that you disagreed with?

What makes DEI training particularly egregious is that it implies that the individuals being trained are morally lacking. This can be especially offensive to British workers who live in one of the most non-racist societies on the planet and take pride in their history of standing up for the underdog, the persecuted, and demanding fair play and justice. Who do these activists think they are to judge others as morally lacking? If you are planning DEI training in your workplace, just stop for a moment and consider if it is such a good idea to imply that your colleagues, employees, and friends require 're-educating'. There are fewer more offensive things you can do than to question someone's values in this way. #EDI #DEI #HumanResources #UKemployers https://lnkd.in/ec2EeM37
