Digital Transformation Specialist - 20+ years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, and project management for high reliability space applications - Bridging the gap between design and the production floor
Great panel discussion today! Lots of interesting topics covered but I was most curious to hear how both software providers and users are thinking about how AI is going to impact the authoring and use of Augmented Reality Work Instructions. For some teams, those who have established work instructions that are matured over time are looking for a way to easily migrate that information into an immersive AR experience. For others, AI and computer vision can be used to “error check” what it sees. My challlenge is that due to our high mix low volume workload, our work instructions are created just in time to support production and are used only a handful of times. So while leveraging existing is work instructions is important im actually interested in how AI can be used to help us communicate between design and production to partially auto generate our work instructions. Its my belief that building that digital thread will help facilitate that down stream “error checking”. ✌🏼
Great panel on enterprise work instructions with Alex Goldberg at Blue Origin , Sven Brunner, Alex Berlin , Erika Cion, Eng. of Lockheed Martin and our own David Nedohin!

On June 28, R&E held a virtual industry day to discuss the Broad Other Transaction Announcement (BOTA) with more than 300 participants from over 150 companies. The event, hosted by Marcia Holmes, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Mission Capabilities (ASD(MC)), included presentations from multiple members of the R&E team, who provided an overview of the BOTA and the three R&E ASD offices (Mission Capabilities, Critical Technologies, and Science & Technology). The Capability Focus Area (CFA) #1 was discussed, which focuses on: 1) Enabling assured space operations, including offensive and defensive space control; navigation warfare; space domain awareness; and 2) Multi-domain collaborative autonomy, including Command and Control (C2) to enable synchronized collaborative swarms; cost imposing collaborative autonomy effects to see, blind and kill. Submissions for CFA #1 are due by 31 July. Additional CFAs covering different topics will be released throughout the BOTA performance period. Lockheed Martin's Top Secret Hypersonic Set To Break Sound Barrier... Lockheed Martin (a previous client of Assured Systems) is rumoured to be set for the inaugural flight of its much-anticipated unmanned hypersonic aircraft, the SR-72, affectionately referred to as the "Son of Blackbird," as soon as 2025. Shrouded in secrecy as a top-tier project for the United States Air Force (USAF), the SR-72 is envisioned to achieve remarkable speeds surpassing 4,000 mph (6,437 kph), securing its status as the fastest aircraft ever developed. Its anticipated role draws parallels with its esteemed forerunner, the venerable SR-71 "Blackbird." With a distinguished lineage, the SR-72 is widely recognised as the logical successor to the SR-71 "Blackbird," a legendary aircraft that set speed records in 1974 before being retired by the USAF in 1998 as the fastest manned aircraft. The SR-72 is purportedly designed to operate without a crew, showcasing hypersonic capabilities, and featuring reusability. Its primary functions are expected to align with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) activities, continuing the legacy established by its iconic predecessor.
