Using 360º immersive videos, virtual reality interactive tours and 3D modeling, #NatGeoExplorer Daniel Venturini researches the under-explored features of some of the most distant and least protected oceanic islands of Brazil. “These islands are tremendously important for ocean health: they hold substantial rates of fish biomass and endemism, serve as a refuge for marine organisms and migratory species, carry unique geological features, intriguing stories and an outstanding aesthetic appeal,” Venturini explains. His goal: to educate and inform a wider audience of the unique content found in these areas. “Allied with a well-planned and open-access distribution, we will make these oceanic islands accessible for a wider audience to appreciate and learn from.” 📷 A distant view from the northern face of Trindade Island, located off the coast of Brazil (Photo by Daniel Venturini).

How might highly engaging, projected spatial experiences, like holograms, improve empathy for others? It appears the "hologram zoo" in Brisbane is at the forefront of exploring this opportunity, especially as relates to humans' relationship with animals! 🎊 One of the problems I see with zoos is a lack of rich information to learn about the actual animals. (A plaque doesn’t do much for me.) Most animals I see in the zoo are not living a life that tells me much about them. I see a small snapshot in time and have little context about where they came from or the range of their development and behaviors. In a sense, this "single snapshot" is an information-poor stereotype of the animal. In many cases, these animals have become “token animals”. But there is an alternative: good storytelling and rich information with a focus on empathy. Nature shows like Planet Earth are popular for just this reason - they show the animal in the wild, with rich scenes that tell an empathy-driven story. What if you could experience that same richness of media as Planet Earth, but in person, immersed in a 3D world, at the zoo? The opportunities are obvious, and this would undoubtedly attract more visitors to a zoo. I myself am not that into VR. It makes me dizzy and feels too disconnecting from others to be standing beside each other yet totally apart. I do hope, however, to experience something like the "Hologram Zoo" soon. Here's to using technology wisely and to developing more empathy for others - whatever species they are. 🐬 😊 🌿

Our precious Earth, a vibrant mosaic of ecosystems, faces unprecedented challenges that threaten its delicate balance. Today, "Earth Day" serves as a stark reminder of our responsibility to safeguard our planet's natural beauty and biodiversity. Embracing innovative technologies like VR offers a compelling pathway to engage and educate younger generations about environmental conservation. For instance, VR applications such as "How to Rescue a Reef" provide immersive underwater experiences that emulate real-world coral reef research and restoration efforts. This particular program not only educates participants about coral conservation but also involves them in a global community committed to building coastal resilience through education, restoration, and citizen science. By experiencing the underwater world and its challenges through VR, students can develop a deeper appreciation and a more personal connection to environmental issues, motivating them to advocate for and engage in planet-protecting activities. Through such interactive and immersive educational tools, we can foster a sense of stewardship and collective responsibility essential for the sustainability of our Earth. 🏛️ Eternalizing Monuments with Photogrammetry in the Virtual World 🏛️ Preserving our global heritage is crucial, and photogrammetry has proven its immeasurable value time and again, most notably in restoration projects like Notre Dame, post-disaster. It's not only about capturing spaces; it’s about creating a digital safeguard for our historical and cultural edifices. At Enneas, we delve into complex architectural realms, immortalizing spaces filled with dark corners, detailed arches, and perfectly preserved ancient frescos through meticulous 3D mapping. 📸 From capturing thousands of images to crafting them into exact 3D models, we ensure every subtle hue of a fresco, every architectural intricacy is authentically replicated and preserved in the digital world. 🔄 Moreover, these 3D models aren’t just digital archives; they serve as vital resources for restoration, research, and in the creation of immersive experiences through Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR). From interactive museum experiences to virtual walkthroughs, these digital twins breathe new interactive life into physical spaces, making them accessible and experiential in a whole new dimension. Join us on a journey where the rich, cultural narratives of the past are not only preserved but reborn, enabling them to be explored and appreciated by generations to come. 🌐 #Photogrammetry #CulturalPreservation #DigitalHeritage #3DModeling #Restoration #AR #VR
