"Consequences of Senate inaction also affect military morale, retention, and recruitment; individual soldier welfare; and the welfare of military families as promotions and pay are negatively impacted, financial stress mounts, retirements are stalled, transitions are disrupted, and families are stuck in limbo. Military families are forced into geographical separation. The costs of maintaining multiple residences destroys financial savings, college funds, and safety nets. Military spouses face employment challenges, and families stress over questions related to where they will live and where their children will attend school. Future military leaders are watching, taking notes, and seeing how political charades can have real impacts on their families. These future senior leaders are questioning how long they will continue to serve. They are increasingly deferring or withdrawing from leadership and promotion opportunities. And, for the first time, military families, one of the largest sources of military recruits, are increasingly advising their sons and daughters not to serve." https://lnkd.in/gEey2RSF

Experienced Financial Markets Leader | DEI Ambassador | Trustee | Thought Leader | Veteran | Reservist | Industry Commentator 2024
So...we are finally at D-1... As we stand on the brink of what could be a monumental shift, one can't help but draw parallels between historic moments of anticipation and the present political climate. We have recently commemorated DDAY 80. On D-1 before the invasion of France in World War II, combatants faced a storm of emotions: anxiety, determination, and the weight of responsibility for the future. They were about to embark on a mission that would shape the course of history, fully aware of the immense stakes and the uncertain outcome facing them. Today, as we arrive at D-1 before the UK general election, parliamentary candidates are experiencing a very different (and not generally life threatening...) but equally intense form of anticipation. With predictions of a Labour super-majority, the biggest since 1832, candidates from all parties are grappling with their own storm of emotions. The final MRP from YouGov of this campaign predicts a potential Labour landslide with a majority of 212 seats. LAB 431 (+229), CON: 102 (-263), LDM: 72 (+61), SNP: 18 (-30), REFORM: 3 (+3), PC: 3 (-1), GRN: 2 (+1). They face the prospect of significant political change, the responsibility to their constituents, and the uncertainty of their own political careers. Both groups, separated by time and context, share a common thread: the burden and exhilaration of pivotal moments. Whether it's soldiers poised on the eve of battle or politicians on the cusp of an electoral landslide, these individuals are united by their commitment to their cause and their readiness to face the future, no matter how unpredictable it may be. To (mis) quote Eisenhower - 'The eyes of the country will be on you all'. Please make sure to cast your vote, honouring the sacrifices made by those who fought for our right to do so. #ElectionDay #PoliticalHistory #Leadership #UKPolitics

The rank-and-file is an uproar about Smokin' Joe's crushing of Warren Buffet's unions and the implications to whatever shop members work for other progressive plutocrats. Wildcat sickouts and intentional damage, which takes a long time to fix at great expense, along BNSF (owned by Buffet) lines are being talked about to intentionally tank the Xmas logistics season. Coordinating this with the Teamsters, who would be demanded to replace all those lost trains, is something still in the discussion phase. The images of US armed forces occupying US trains in the west for protection is something progressives are keen to avoid and the Teamsters expect sufficient rewards to prevent this. https://lnkd.in/gz2W3CGe

Be brave enough to teach the history they are trying to erase!: On June 22, 1944, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act (USA), known as the GI Bill, to provide financial aid to veterans returning from World War II. The benefits included access to housing, small business loans, employment, and education. While the GI Bill was federal legislation, it was administered by the states, where Jim Crow laws and practices severely limited equal access to the benefits. Here are some questions to consider regarding the GI Bill: Were the benefits for everyone? How many elected officials, opposed to government programs today, benefit from their family having been on the GI Bill? What is the impact of the GI Bill on racial disparities in the United States today?

To put Amazon’s plans for Bellevue in perspective, its current headcount in the one square mile area would make it the 13th largest company in the State. Upon achieving the 25,000 target, which it appears very likely to do by the end of the decade, the Bellevue employment alone would only be surpassed by the Navy, UW, JBLM, Microsoft, Boeing and Amazon Seattle. At the same time, the last apartment project to open in downtown Bellevue was the Bell 10 project in 2022. It filled up like greased lightning. Not one in 2023. Broadstone Savoie will open next month. Likely one small affordable project will finish late next year or early 2026, thanks to the Amazon Housing Fund. There will be zero after that one until 2-3 years after something else finally breaks ground.

"The Democrats want the government to do even more and the Republicans even less — I think we should spend more time trying to do even better." -- "We need good government. And there are some things only governments can do, such as oversee the military and justice systems. And while most innovation happens through the private sector, there are certain types of foundational innovations that can only be advanced by the government, such as basic research that simply cannot be funded by business. The Democrats want the government to do even more and the Republicans even less — I think we should spend more time trying to do even better. But no one, not even my most liberal Democratic friends, thinks that sending the government another trillion a year would be a wise use of money." -- Jamie Dimon. Letter to Shareholders. 2023 Annual Report.
