Drought-resistant wheat – the "Holy Grail" of agriculture. With wheat occupying 17% of global cultivated land and feeding 35% of the world's population, finding a drought-resistant strain is crucial. Did you know? Canadian researchers have built a groundbreaking 3D model to help predict droughts, floods and other climate-related water challenges before they happen. For farmers whose crops and livestock depend on water, the model would help them make decisions in the face of uncertain climate conditions. It would provide useful information such as groundwater levels, soil moisture, nutrients and ecosystem services. It could also highlight areas that will become suitable or unsuitable for agriculture in the years to come. I found the soil food web conceptualization by BeAgriculture fascinating. "The soil food web, like any food web, works through what are called ‘trophic levels’, or life levels... Consider the soil food web like you would all of the fish and organisms in the ocean. Think of bacteria as the plankton, and the larger nematodes as the sharks. Apex predators like sharks only appear in mature ecosystems, and the average farm/garden does not have mature soil, and therefore does not have the higher organisms present. Cows make it rain. 🌧️ 🌾 ☔️ Deserts across the world were not always so. Many used to be lush grasslands. But now lay barren, covered in shrubs with exposed soil. Mismanagement by humans has played a major role in desertification. But Alejandro Carrillo is changing that narrative using cattle. He bunches them tightly, concentrating their grazing, urine, and manure; moving them once or twice daily to fresh grass. This rhythm of impact and rest has resulted in quite a transformation. Surrounding neighbors stock one cow for every 150 acres. But Alejandro stocks one for every 40 acres. And every drop is significant where less than 10 inches fall annually. On Las Damas, water infiltration rates average 300% greater than neighbors. Remember, it's not what rain you get, but what you keep. Science is also finding a connection between microbes and rain. Evidence shows that vegetation and soils contribute to biological and atmospheric effects that influence cloud formation and cause rain to fall, a process known as bioprecipitation. Storm clouds often form exclusively over his ranch's grasslands, where rain often misses neighboring fields. What if regenerative agriculture can revitalize, regenerate, and reinvigorate even the most brittle landscapes? Million acres were plowed across the Great Plains of America 100 years ago. . The result A 500 foot black cloud of 'top soil' that traveled 50 _60 mph across the Midwest of the United States. This dust storm,now called "Black Sunday " occurred on April 14 th, 1935. It was the most catastrophic human caused natural disasters in history. One we are still feeling the effects of today. Some present day estimates say 1,200,000,000 tons of top soil were displaced across 100,000,000 acres of farmlanr in the United States. And left 125,000,000 acres no longer farmable. Yet today tilling, doscing, plowing are still common practices across the USA and Globally. We rely on top soil and we are treatng it like dirt!!! Humanity of Humanity !!!!

The next step is to ballance the argument of Degenerative versus Regenerative approaches 🤔🙄. It is best done with the Sustainability metrics. In practical terms... Lets lay out the practices, develop new technologies that remove the manual labor tendencies and drudgery, prove that it is profitable for smallholders and can support national food security and sovereignty. Then we are making progress not argument 🙄

THE "DUST BOWL"-1930'S This phenonium was the result of a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the U.S. & Canadian prairies during the 1930's- It was caused by a combination of NATURAL FACTORS -(severe drought) & HUMAN FACTORS : A failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion, most notably, the destruction of the natural topsoil by those in the region-the drought came in 3 waves:`1934,1936, & 1939-40, but some regions of the high plains experienced drought conditions for a period of 8 years. The following steps were taken: (1) Wind erosion was gradually halted with federal aid,(2) windbreaks known as "shelterbelts"(swarths of trees) that protect soil & crops from wind were planted and much of grassland was restored, and by the early 1940's the area had largely recovered. Note: This situation was created by natural causes and was restored by natural means. Memo: To al you so-called "Climate Changers" NATURAL CAUSES PRODUCED THE "DUST BOWL--AND NATURAL METHODS RESTORED THE LAND."
