Person with disabilities have often faced long-standing exclusion from the formal education system, leading to lower levels of education. As a result, they encounter limited employment opportunities, which ultimately impacts their overall well-being. It’s crucial that we address these barriers and work towards creating inclusive educational and employment systems to empower everyone.
Due to long-standing exclusion, persons with disabilities tend to have lower formal educational achievements, including vocational skills. Quality #apprenticeships are one way of addressing this - as long as they are designed and implemented in an inclusive and accessible way. The International Labour Organization (ILO)'s "Quality Apprenticeships Recommendation, 2023 (No. 208) - Guide for #Policymakers" provides guidance on #disability #inclusion. The guide will be launched online on Wednesday, 26 February, 14:00 to 15:00 CET. Register now for free at https://lnkd.in/eXhCBCWV #enable2work Global Apprenticeship Network

Empowering Potential: Apprenticeships as Pathways for Disability Inclusion 🌟 On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd, 2024), I want to shine a spotlight on an incredible workforce development strategy that creates genuine opportunities: apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are not just jobs—they're transformative experiences that: - Break down traditional employment barriers by focusing on skills and potential rather than perceived limitations - Provide structured, paid learning environments where individuals with disabilities can develop technical expertise while receiving mentorship - Create customized career pathways that accommodate diverse learning styles and accessibility needs - Offer employers a chance to tap into an incredibly talented, often-overlooked talent pool with unique perspectives and problem-solving abilities For persons with disabilities, apprenticeships represent more than employment—they're a bridge to professional identity, economic independence, and personal empowerment. They challenge outdated perceptions and demonstrate that disability is not a barrier to professional excellence. To employers: Consider expanding your apprenticeship programs. To individuals with disabilities: Your talents are valuable, and opportunities are growing. Let's continue building inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive! 💪🏽 #DisabilityInclusion #Apprenticeships #WorkforceDevelopment #Accessibility
