Over the past weeks, I had the chance to lead a team in subdividing 10,000 plots of land into 12 villages. When my boss approached me about the task, I took a deep breath, considered the challenge, and confidently accepted. Although unfamiliar with this type of project and its technicalities, I was determined to excel. My boss entrusted me with the job of mapping out the subdivisions on paper, assigning beacon numbers, and extracting coordinates for our software. Despite the manual extraction process taking two nights, I embraced the learning curve, discovering efficiency tricks along the way.
Following my boss's specifications, we procured the necessary beacons and transported them to the site two days prior to commencing the staking-out process. On Monday, our office staff assembled, and we embarked on the journey to the site. Upon arrival, I established reference points and conducted orientation, promptly triggering the transmission signal. While I staked out the points, others transported and buried the beacons with the assistance of hired bikers.
After a long day's work, we retreated to a nearby hotel, where we encountered challenges finding affordable and sufficient food. Despite the hardships, we managed to recharge our equipment and prepare for the next day. As a leader, I prioritized maintaining harmony among the team, resolving any disputes that arose sometimes it will be very inconveniencing that you may loose something just for peace to reign. We encountered terrain obstacles that necessitated trekking, yet we remained steadfast in our commitment to completing the job.
Throughout the project, I encountered setbacks, such as communication issues between the base and rover. Despite spending hours troubleshooting, I persisted until I discovered a solution, learning valuable lessons in problem-solving and adaptability. Overall, the experience taught me invaluable skills on site organization, negotiation, overcoming challenges, and fostering teamwork to achieve our objectives. I am grateful to Surv Olojede O. Ayobami for the opportunity to lead this project under his guidance.
