🇺🇸 🪖 Defense experts urged the US military to strengthen its anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) capabilities amid rising tensions with China, referring to strategies designed to prevent or limit an enemy’s ability to enter or operate within a specific operational area. 🗣️ Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) fellow Wes Rumbaugh: “For a long time, we thought of A2/AD as something adversaries could use against us, rather than something we could employ against them.” 🗣️ Meanwhile, Retired Maj. Gen. John George, former head of the U.S. Army DEVCOM, stressed the need to invest beyond traditional ground-based air and missile defense. He pointed out that A2/AD strategies also encompass cyber and electronic warfare capabilities.

Air Force Moving Fast to Put New Information Dominance Systems Center at Hanscom Nov. 18, 2024 | By Greg Hadley Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., is the likely home for the Air Force’s new Information Dominance Systems Center, which will be responsible for procuring battle management systems, cyber and electronic weapons, and more.  The Air Force identified Hanscom as the sole candidate location to host the new center on Nov. 15, and a final basing decision is expected before the end of the year. Around 136 positions are expected to come with the center, which was first announced in February as part of the Department of the Air Force’s “re-optimization” for Great Power Competition. The center will fall under Air Force Materiel Command, the service’s main acquisition arm—officials say creating a center focused on information systems will put more focus on procuring systems for a crucial capability that is often forgotten or given less emphasis. #PhoenixDelivers #usaf #InformationDominanceSystemsCenter https://lnkd.in/eEMWPU7c

The PRC has arguably been far ahead in information competition for some time. Now they are taking it to another level. Information warfare used to be one of several missions under the PLA Strategic Support Force. Now, Chinese information warfare will be managed by a new unit that is direct reporting to the highest levels of national authority. Meanwhile, the DoD cannot agree on a single doctrine for information, let alone how we can bring the whole-of-government together to compete in the information environment. Key quotes: "Beijing was focused on cutting out layers of command and enabling top leaders to speak directly to tactical forces in wartime if needed. ...
