Since 1999, Associação Vida Verde da Amazônia (AVIVE, Green Life Association of Amazonia) has worked on the island of Silves, deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, to build a trade in aromatic soaps, candles, cosmetics, and perfumes containing the oils of medicinal plants such as rosewood and andiroba. By adding value to the raw materials obtained from native forest species and eliminating middlemen in the value chain, this women-led initiative has improved incomes for its members and associates. The initiative has involved substantial capacity-building in sustainable harvesting techniques, commercial-standard oil extraction, business administration and marketing. One obstacle to business development was navigating state regulatory frameworks and laws governing the trade of medicinal plants. In overcoming all of these challenges, AVIVE has benefitted from a broad partnership model. https://lnkd.in/daw4P-FG

To mark the International Day for Biological Diversity and its theme "Be part of the plan", discover Seppic's commitments and achievements through its RICE program (Reduce - Integrate - Control - Engage) : #biodiversityday #caring #seppic https://lnkd.in/eFT8N9DE
Care products that care for biodiversity – How do we make it a reality? It all begins with the ingredients! The International #BiodiversityDay is a great opportunity to come back on SEPPIC’s commitments towards biodiversity. Seppic is an Air Liquide Healthcare company that designs and manufactures ingredients for personal care products. When it comes to biodiversity, they make an impact. The cosmetics sector faces a growing consumers’ demand for natural products, which call for a voluntary approach to implement sourcing practices that respect biodiversity 🎯. Back in 2021, Seppic has carried out footprint studies to identify its impacts on biodiversity. This led to the creation of the RICE program : Reduce - Integrate - Control - Engage. Among their commitments: 👉 As of 2024, 100% of Seppic’s new products are developed using an eco-design approach. 👉 By 2025, 100% of Seppic’s new ingredients manufactured in our main sites for botanical products will be sourced according to its Ethical Sourcing System. 👉 By 2030, all our French sites will use 100% biogas (74% achieved in 2023). Because more than half of Seppic’s raw materials come from plant origin, Seppic is taking a proactive stance to take into account ecosystems and biodiversity throughout the value chain. Explore some concrete actions led at Seppic, hand in hand with its partners, to constantly improve its sustainable sourcing ⬇ Hannes-Christian Moeller Marie Ollagnier Air Liquide

BUILDING FIELD BIODIVERSITY In any coffee farming system you have an opportunity to increase field biodiversity to support beneficial insects. You can use a diversity of cover crops or practice alternate row weeding to always keep a diversity of flowering plants in your field that maintain natural predators. Another practice is demonstrated below by Madelaine Venzon’s team at EPAMIG in Brazil. Here field boundaries are planted with trees and shrubs, mostly legumes with extrafloral nectar buds like Senna and Inga spp. Fantastic work to build natural plant defense and reduce the need for spraying. Easy, doable, and reducing IPM cost and insect damage. Knowledge is power! #IPM #RegenAg #Coffee Manoela Vilela Dueñas Juliana Jaramillo Alagu Rajavel S Jeremy Dufour Suzimary Oliveira Aranyak Sanyal

Sometimes your role in creating change is to light small fires and get out of the way, in the hope that those fires join up to create something bigger 🔥 🔥 (Always a fraught analogy in Australia but one that speaks to me nevertheless) Almost two years ago I had a goal to activate conversation in Ballarat about the intersection of #CSR #Purpose and #Community. As I formulated a plan for a Corporate Citizenship Summit I happened across the wonderful Bea Boccalandro and her work in job purposing. She came to Ballarat to keynote our event, brought to life by the team at Committee for Ballarat. Fellow speakers included Helen Szabo from McCain Foods, Jade Moffat Herman (she/her) from IBM and Chris Wright, then at Mars who spoke about the Ballarat based work to bring these wrappers 👇to life and to market. How joyous to see Bea, two years later, sharing the work of a Ballarat-based manufacturing facility to her global audience, and having some fun linking the benefits of purchasing sustainable products to mood and wellbeing. Our Corporate Citizenship Summit was a great event. Did it have the impact I was hoping for? Not at the time, or in the way I then hoped. Was I disappointed that we couldn't muster the change and momentum I dreamt of? Yes. Did we light a little fire that might just join other little fires and have an impact I didn't imagine or anticipate? Maybe, just maybe 🔥🤞 The work of change is hard. It's slow and it takes time and patience. For anyone else wanting to do more for the world, your world, please keep lighting little fires. Maybe yours will join mine one day and we'll make a bigger impact together. P.S. Proud to now call Bea a friend - a wonderful unanticipated outcome of my little fire #sustainability #socialimpact #leadership #courage #socialpsychologist #changemaker
Could a more sustainable wrapper make the chocolate inside yummier? There aren't any high-quality studies on how corporate social responsibility (CSR) impacts product taste. However, studies have shown that CSR can evoke an emotional response similar to gazing into the eyes of a loved one (see https://buff.ly/45j7Wmn) and generally make products more satisfying (see https://buff.ly/3RqnDT3 and https://buff.ly/3RqnE9z). So, maybe! Watch the video to see the results of my informal taste test on the new Australian Mars Wrigley Mars bar packaged in sustainably sourced paper. #Sustainability #BusinessWithPurpose #Mars #DoGoodWork

🌿🍵 Celebrating International Tea Day with a Tribute to Women Empowerment and Sustainable Ecosystems 🍵🌿 Today, as we raise our cups to toast International Tea Day, we're not just celebrating a beverage; we're honoring the invaluable contributions of women and championing two vital Sustainable Development Goals: Empowering Women (SDG 5) and Sustainable Ecosystems (SDG 15). Join us as we shine a spotlight on the remarkable women cultivating and harvesting tea at Bois Cheri, our local tea manufacturer in Mauritius. Did you know? Tea is the world’s second most consumed beverage, after water. Yet, its significance extends far beyond a refreshing sip. Tea production and processing are lifelines for millions of families in developing countries, providing vital means of subsistence, particularly for those in the least developed nations. It's important to recognize that tea, like many agricultural industries, relies heavily on a female workforce. Today, we extend our deepest gratitude to these women for their tireless work and dedication to nurturing our planet. Tea plantation are mainly done on slopes in several countries like Mauritius. The plantation help in retaining the top soil and prevent soil erosion. Leftover of tea is also very good for the soil as it is rich in tannic acid and nitrogen which are good fertilisers for the plant growth. You can use it in your composting or directly in your plant to support the root development and boost your plant growth at home. #InternationalTeaDay #EmpowerWomen #SustainableEcosystems #BoisCheri #Mauritius #Onesttouswinners

🚨Exactly one year after our April Fool's joke, our battle still rages on against modern slavery, child labour, deforestation, and planet-plundering dinosaurs! Last year, we threatened to leave the Netherlands because companies like Boskalis seemed to be calling the shots. Even though many awesome brands were busy pushing for progress with #CSDDD, the Dutch government was dragging its feet. Meanwhile, our savvy pals in Germany, France, and Norway were already setting the pace with their Due Diligence laws. 💥BUT, we're still here, stirring up trouble, and next week on April 24th, the European Parliament will weigh in on this game-changing law that promotes fair and responsible business practices worldwide. It isn't just a piece of legislation; it's our lifeline to a future where ethics reign supreme and our planet THRIVES. 🌍 So, here's the deal: we're NOT backing down, and neither should YOU!
