Water is a foundation for healthier citizens. 💧 And yet, studies show that many Europeans are not adequately hydrated, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and pregnant women. Our Manifesto calls for strategic policies to promote adequate and healthy hydration, recognising that increased water consumption has a role to play towards healthier diets and in preventing non-communicable diseases. Barbados has shown us the undeniable impact of front-of-package warning labels. Since implementing these labels, the country has seen a 16% decrease in deaths caused by non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. 🍃 Additionally, this initiative has led to an incredible USD 732.8 million in healthcare savings. It's a clear testament that warning labels not only save lives but also strengthen economies by reducing healthcare costs. It's time for Pakistan to follow this model and take a step toward a healthier, more informed nation. #HiddenSugars #FrontOfPackageLabels #HealthAwareness #UltraProcessedFoods #NutritionMatters #HealthyEating #SugarAwareness #PublicHealth #FoodTransparency #LabelItRight

Note: While pasteurization should protect the milk supply, the threat of a “bird flu” pandemic should not be underestimated. As we all learned in COVID, public health authorities are primarily at the state and local levels, and that is where decision support products (e.g., pandemic tailored intelligence) should be focused. DHS tried to implement such a program almost 15 years ago without success, and in extrapolating from comments made by Dr.’s Fauci and Birx, that failure was responsible for about half the losses experienced in the COVID pandemic. A “bird flu” pandemic could initially see a 50% mortality rate, dramatically more deadly than what we saw from the 2020-22 pandemic.

Are We Really in Control of Our Food Policies? As we confront the glaring influence of big business in shaping our food policies, it's clear that their dominance in the policy-making process skews critical health regulations. The tactics employed are not just aggressive but deeply manipulative, aiming to maintain their market dominance at the expense of public health initiatives. The real challenge lies in implementing and enforcing regulations that can cut through this layer of disinformation and deception. It's essential to level the playing field and ensure that all voices—especially those of the marginalised—are heard and considered in policy-making. We need a steadfast commitment to transparency and equity to truly transform our health policy landscape. As citizens and as policymakers, we must question, challenge, and advocate for change. It's time to take back control and ensure our health policies genuinely aim to improve our nation's health. #PublicHealth #LegislativeChange #EndIndustryInterference
Is Big Business pulling the strings? Their dominance in policy-making processes distorts crucial health regulations. They employ a range of manipulative tactics to maintain their position, prevent public health initiatives and undermine regulatory attempts to improve nutrition. This influences legislation meant to curb the rise in non-communicable diseases linked to poor diets. The challenge is to implement and enforce regulations that cut through the disinformation and deception, and to ensure equitable voices of all players. Check out our recent article regarding disparities in COVID-19 vaccine uptake between essential food systems and non-food systems workers. Workers from historically underserved communities such as racialized ethnic minorities and immigrants are overrepresented in essential food systems jobs. Improving the ability of public health institutions to effectively work with these communities not only improve the health of these workers but also ensure the viability of our food supply chain during public health emergencies. https://lnkd.in/eH-ND_6t

The public health costs of diet-related disease to the US economy alone are estimated at over $1 TRILLION dollars per year. How much do diet-related disease costs just for incarcerated people add up to? We're working on it, here at Coalition for Carceral Nutrition. Because if you spend a couple dollars a day feeding people, this is what it looks like, and this is the result. It's short-sighted, and it's costing YOU money in the long run, as we all pay the costs of the carceral system's culinary malpractice. Two million people are incarcerated on any given day, but about 10 million people cycle through our system each year. One third of American adults have been system-involved in some way - so this isn't a problem we can just keep thinking of as someone else's. Join us in fixing this: https://lnkd.in/e6WP_KVr #changethetray #prisonfoodreset #carceralnutrition
