Will the Ulstein X-Bow become the new standard in Expedition Cruising? It will be interesting to see how many other expedition companies follow Aurora’s lead. The unique X-Bow design found on the newest expedition vessels is part of a long evolution of bow and hull design in cruising. The X-Bow was first introduced by Aurora Expeditions with the launch of the Greg Mortimer in 2019. The strangely tapered upside down shape is a departure from the tapered bows and U-shaped hulls found on most cruise ships, or the V shaped hull of Cunard’s iconic QM2. The X-Bow deign has the effect of slicing through the water, piercing the waves, rather than riding on top of them. This results in greatly reducing the pitching motion you find with a V shaped hull, which allows for more stability in rough seas such as you would find in the notorious Drake Passage. I will be following this with interest. #auroraexpeditions #gregmortimer #douglasmawson #xbow #ulsteinxbow #expedition #cruising

The ship’s new role as a diving and fishing attraction could generate millions of dollars annually for the local tourism industry. Scuba shops, charter boats, hotels, and other businesses are likely to see a surge in visitors eager to explore the historic liner in its underwater home. Beyond its economic potential, the ship’s conversion into a reef will create a haven for marine life. Artificial reefs provide shelter and breeding grounds for a variety of species, boosting biodiversity and improving the overall health of marine ecosystems. Once submerged, the ship will be contributing to the area’s existing network of more than 500 artificial reefs. https://lnkd.in/gxxVaY2E

🐧 Planning an expedition cruise to Antarctica and wondering when is the best time to book? Here's what you need to know! 🚢 Booking your Antarctic adventure is a major decision, and it's best to start planning at least 8 months in advance. The sooner you book, the better your chances of securing your preferred cabins. Plus, you can often take advantage of early bird discounts for extra savings on your cruise fare! 🎉 Keep in mind that many expedition cruises offer optional excursions, such as kayaking or wildlife encounters. However, these activities often have limited spaces available. For instance, a cruise with 120 passengers might only offer 10-15 spots for kayaking, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Secure your spot early to maximize your chances of joining these unforgettable experiences! 🛶 Don't miss out on the adventure of a lifetime – book your Antarctic expedition today and get ready to embark on a journey you'll never forget! 🌊 #AntarcticaCruises #WhiteContinent #AdventureAwaits #Antarctica #BucketListTravel

Plan - Prepare - Perform Great introduction and explanation of The Explorers Club Prepardness and Rapid Response Task Force outlined by Synnøve Marie Kvam Strømsvåg As she mentions, the Task Force will make efficient use of the problem-solving skills and connections of the exploration network, reaching global experts who may not be on a traditional call list, in real-time, to ensure a prompt response during a crisis. Privileged to be amongst its members given the huge wealth of talent this initiative has pulled together. It will be interesting to see how it develops further, its reach and areas of impact going forward. 🌐Glenbarr #preparedness #rapidresponse #problemsolving #thinkingdifferently

What a transformation
The grandeur of the former Royal Arms Hotel in Gosport has been restored. 👏 Originally established in 1810, it became known as the ‘Submariners Pub’ in the 20th century as it was a regular haunt of submariners returning to Gosport after a tour of duty. As part of our High Street Heritage Action Zone in Gosport, Hampshire, we've restored the canopy and façade so that future generations can enjoy them. We protect and support local historic places that communities can be proud of. #HistoricHighStreets
