The Maritime Domain Awareness Buoy provides a 24/7/365 awareness to be able to monitor “Pattern of Life”, which is necessary to detect any anomalies, both above and below surface.
OPT successfully performed a live demonstration of its PowerBuoy with MDAS configuration "Merrows" for the Colombian Navy at the Port Captaincy of Tumaco and the Pacific Oceanographic Research Center. The demonstration was attended by professionals from the Colombian Navy, including systems engineers, physics engineers, researchers, geologists, oceanographers, hydrographers, and esteemed military personnel. OPT is introducing a new perspective to LATAM on obtaining MetOcean data, territorial water and port security, and other commercial and defense applications in the safest, most cost-effective, and reliable way possible. #OceanTechnology #MaritimeSecurity #DefenseInnovation #MetOceanData #LATAM #ColombianNavy #RenewableEnergy #PortSecurity #OceanPowerTechnologies #SustainableSolutions #MarineResearch #Innovation

“I don't think I would have the job I have if it weren't for the work that I've done through the Acquisition Research Symposium to take these ideas, to think about them hard, to work with another person as a co-author or co-authors and put down ideas about what we should be doing differently about this work,” said Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition (ASN RD&A) Nickolas Guertin. Hear from Guertin, Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Kurt Rothenhaus, NPS students and other attendees in this video recap of the 21st annual Acquisition Research Symposium, hosted by NPS on May 8-9 in Monterey. Each year, the Acquisition Research Symposium brings together experts from government, military, industry, and academia to explore the impact of defense acquisition on the delivery of innovative and necessary warfighting capabilities. It also provides a forum for NPS students to present their research on acquisition matters and offer improvements for the future. - Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eHrEjRYF - More about ARP at NPS: https://lnkd.in/gFUcgXi - NPS Department of Defense Management: https://nps.edu/web/ddm US Navy | United States Marine Corps | Department of the Navy Research, Development, and Acquisition (RD&A) | Office of Naval Research | Acquisition Research Program at Naval Postgraduate School | Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition | Department of Defense Management at Naval Postgraduate School | Naval Warfare Studies Institute at Naval Postgraduate School #AcqnSymposium #acquisition #contracting

Deactivation of End-of-Life Batteries with Corey Love from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. This talk details the risks associated with end-of-life batteries and explores techniques for deactivating them when they reach the end of their useful life. Among these techniques, saltwater immersion shows promise, but it is hindered by slow deactivation and potential electrolyte release. https://lnkd.in/eSCm8yVW #BatterySafetySummit #batterysafety

The U.S. Navy FLIP (Floating Lnstrument Platform) is a unique research vessel unlike any other. FLIP is essentially a giant, buoyant spar buoy, measuring 355 feet (108 meters) long. Unlike conventional ships, it can be flipped vertically. In its vertical position, the observation rooms end up submerged underwater, while the living quarters extend high above the surface. This allows for a highly stable platform for scientific research. FLIP is owned by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) and operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. While it has some military applications, its primary function is scientific research. #military #defense #defence #navy #marines #maritime #science #ocean #research #underwater #militarytechnology #scientificresearch #engineering #technology #technologies #marinetechnology #marineequipment

This week we are celebrating the #EtterAward Winners from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory! Mr. Trey J. Morris, Emergent Engineer Award Morris demonstrated leadership and excellence in developing the capability to use machine learning models and artificial intelligence algorithms to rapidly search vast ocean areas for surface vessels. This development has enabled analysts to quickly locate vessels at sea and classify them as merchant, combatant, potential smuggler or illegal fishing vessel in hours instead of days. Morris has been able to synthesize advances from the private sector and multiple academic fields to match them to the unique requirements and stressful workflows of the warfighter. His ability to integrate a broad set of critical science and technology efforts has enabled NRL to extend its legacy of scientific and technological achievements, and has resulted in groundbreaking intelligence and warfighting capabilities for the U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and Intelligence Community.
