Soo… Do sharks eat people? 🤔 Movies like Jaws and most recently The Meg 1 and 2 have perpetuated the myth that sharks are dangerous creatures who thirst for blood and feed upon human flesh 😭🦈 Are they really dangerous? Of course not. In *most* marine ecosystems where sharks are found, these Elasmobranch act as top predators, preying on smaller fish, molluscs, crustaceans and seals, subsequently keeping the balance of the ecosystem in check. …Did you notice we put an emphasis on ‘most’? Well, it’s because in certain cases, sharks are PREY animals 🤯 Killer whales (Orcinus orca) have been found hunting, killing, and eating great white sharks, sometimes only disemboweling them for their liver. So, why do surfers often get bitten by sharks? If seen from below the sea surface, surfers appear similar to seals and turtles, hence sharks can easily mistake surfers as food. They would then take a bite, only to find out they’ve got the wrong prey. Sharks would let go if so. Sharks don’t eat humans, but humans do eat them — they’re hunted for both their fins and meat. That, coupled with habitat degradation, has made over 30% of Elasmobranch endangered worldwide. It seems the sharks should fear us more than we fear them, doesn’t it? #shark #sharks #elasmobranch #sharkfin #sharkmeat #marine #comic #comics #comicstrip #comicart #marineconservation #sharkconservation #DYK #DidYouKnow #DYKFacts #marinebiology #fisheries #SDG14

Tasmania, Australia 🇦🇺: A CSIRO-led study found about 80% of little penguin deaths recorded in Tasmania between the 1980s and 2022 were a direct result of dog attacks. The study found that in small colonies, even low levels of dog attacks can lead to colony collapse within 10-15 years. BirdLife Australia say dog owners need to ensure their pet is controlled at night to reduce the number of little penguin deaths. #wildlifewednesday #hfnef #wildlife #wildlifeandanimals #wildlifeprotection #animalwelfare #penguins #endangeredspecies #endangeredanimals #endangered #tasmania #australia Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/gqF3Sw58 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g3ZBSn_6

The use of wild animal skins is part of the DuBois et fils #sustainability concept. These skins are usually destroyed. We have leather made from them in an old #tannery and use it for the DuBois et fils watch packaging. Dominik is one of the hunters who supplies us with skins. #duboisetfils #packaginginnovation #sustainablebusiness

A fish fishing for fish…🎣🐠 Meet the master of disguise : the Frogfish! The most interesting aspect of the frogfish, apart from it's perfect camouflage, is the way it attracts it's prey. Other fish lie in wait until the prey swims close to their mouth (lie-in-wait predation), but the frogfish (or anglerfish) lures the prey (fish, crustaceans) actively to where it can strike. The lure mimics food animals like worms, small shrimps or small fish. The prey approaches to catch the lure and then is engulfed by the waiting frogfish. This strategy is called aggressive mimicry. What a stealthy predator! #Oceanlife
