Food for thought… the proposed FY 2025 Defense budget from the White House calls for procuring 6 Battle Force ships and RETIRING 19! I understand that many of these platforms are reaching their projected service life but how does it make sense to propose such a significant disparity in Naval resources? Is there planning going on to extend the service life of some platforms rather than immediately retiring them? Now the proposal to expand the VLS capability on other vessels or even adding a new vessel to provide this capability. Maybe extending the service life of some of the CG or SSGN platforms and pre positioning them in the Indo-Pacific theater as a stop gap until new platform are available in the Fleet. Given all the geopolitical dynamics in the world today, I don’t understand why other considerations for redeploying and maintaining resources are fully utilized rather than quickly opting to decommission them… Seems like this vessel is “not under command”… red over red… 🇺🇸

#Argentina🇦🇷 The government of #PresidentJavierMilei remains focused on enhancing the capabilities of the military apparatus and has outlined a broad scheme of purchases and expenditures in the #2025budget proposal presented by #PresidentMilei this past weekend. Within the so-called #Jurisdiction45, which pertains to the Ministry of #Defense, the libertarian administration signaled its intention to allocate hundreds of millions of dollars for the acquisition of submarines, frigates, 8x8 armored vehicles, rifles and machine guns, and a fleet of transport aircraft. At the same time, the government will proceed with the development or renovation of facilities to house the F-16 fighter jets purchased earlier this year. The Ministry of Defense is also continuing negotiations for the purchase of a batch of U.S. Black Hawk helicopters, which will be upgraded by Israeli firms. The #2025budgetproject includes, for example, the intention to allocate more than $2.31 billion, with a three-year repayment period, for the "restoration of submarine capabilities." In this regard, the government plans to acquire three #Scorpene or Type #209 submarines, developed by the French Naval Group and the German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), respectively. Additionally, the administration proposes allocating another $1.4 billion for the acquisition of "two surface naval units – Frigates – to protect the core of a naval force." At the same time, they aim to promote the construction of two transport ships, with an estimated base cost of $81 million. The acquisition of 8x8 armored vehicles for the Army is also among the government's priorities for the coming year, with a proposed expenditure of over 380 million pesos. Regarding the technology under evaluation, the Armed Forces are considering the LAV III/#Stryker 8x8 vehicles from the U.S. company General Dynamics and the #Guaraní 6x6 vehicles from Brazil. In addition to these purchases, funds will be allocated for the "acquisition of new ballistic helmets, bulletproof vests, rifles, machine guns, and grenade launchers. #Defense🇦🇷

The Indian Navy has taken a significant stride in bolstering its maritime capabilities with the commissioning of its first Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk multirole helicopter squadron. The newly established unit, designated as Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 334, was formally inaugurated on 6th March at Indian Naval Station Garuda in Kochi, situated in the southwestern region of India. The commissioning marks a pivotal moment for India’s naval defense strategy, as the MH-60R Seahawk helicopters are poised to play a crucial role across various operational domains, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), search-and-rescue (SAR) missions, medical evacuation operations, and vertical replenishment tasks. INAS 334 is anticipated to serve not only as an operational unit but also as a training platform for upcoming MH-60R squadrons slated for induction in the future. The ceremony itself was marked by ceremonial traditions, including a notable fly-past by a formation of the Seahawks and a traditional water cannon salute, symbolizing the historic significance of the occasion, as highlighted by the Indian Navy in an official statement. Video footage from the commissioning ceremony showcased four MH-60Rs bearing serial numbers IN751, IN752, IN753, and IN755. However, it is worth noting that the squadron likely boasts a complement of at least six MH-60Rs, with IN754 being delivered to Indian Naval Station Garuda in July 2022, followed by IN756 later the same year. Training activities with a fleet of three Seahawks had commenced as early as November 2022 at Indian Naval Station Garuda, with additional training conducted for Indian Navy pilots in the United States at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, utilizing three helicopters procured earlier. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/greK2Vca

The #Pakistan Navy's (PN) first MILGEM corvette -- PNS Babur -- is coming home, with its crews undergoing training and drills on the way. In our analysis we examine how the MILGEM corvette fits in the PN's wider modernization efforts, which involve the procurement of new frigates (Type 054A/P and AS3400/Jinnah-class) and submarines (Hangor and SWATS). In some ways, the MILGEM design mirrors some of the goals the US had set out with the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. We posit that, perhaps, the PN will use the MILGEM as the focal point of its own littoral anti-access and area-denial (A2/AD) goals where it will work closely with FAC(M), land-based AShMs, and shallow-water attack submarines (SWATS). In turn, the larger combatants (i.e., Tughril-class, Jinnah-class, Hangor-class, etc) will focus more on open waters, e.g., guarding sea lanes. https://lnkd.in/eT3kh3xU

The announcement of the establishment of a new unmanned surface vessel squadron focused on the development of tactics, techniques and procedures and the concept of operations for small USVs is a step in the right direction for the Navy as USVs will play a critical role in the Navy's Distributed Maritime Operations strategy. As BCE has monitored the USV & UUV markets, we have paid close attention to the disconnect between the sophistication of the capabilities industry have developed and the relative immaturity of the Navy’s DOTMLPF-P elements. The Navy has not yet invested enough to mature DOTMLPF-P elements to the levels needed to support broad adoption. For now, the Navy's maturation across DOTMLPF-P elements appears to be the hold up and we hope that the newly established Surface Development Squadron One (SURFDEVRON) unmanned squadron will accelerate maturation and allow the Navy to move forward with programs of record that harness the capabilities that industry has developed. #USV #Navy #DOTMLPFP #Defense #defenseindustry Craig Belanger Anirudh Suneel Ben Osterholtz Robyn Pirie

BAE Systems Wins U.S. Navy Deal for Next-Gen Fighter Decoys, BAE Systems won a $54 million U.S. Navy contract to develop the Dual Band Decoy (DBD) for Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. Raytheon was disqualified due to a conflict of interest with a former Navy employee. The contract award to create a new decoy system to replace the towed decoys flown on select U.S. Navy jets was confirmed by BAE Systems months ago. According to the business, a $54 million contract was granted by Naval Air Systems Command in September for the development of the Dual Band Decoy (DBD). Under the terms of the deal, Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, which are now equipped with BAE's ALE-55 towed decoy, will continue to receive towed decoys from the business. #Airport #Airline #USAF #USA #AviationIndustry #BAE #AviationOasis https://lnkd.in/exEQWDtn
