THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Women's History Month originated from a grassroots movement in Sonoma County, California to honor women's contributions to history, culture, and society. It provides a platform to recognize trailblazing women who have shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. Despite significant strides, women continue to face systemic barriers in various aspects of life, including the workplace, healthcare, and education. Gender pay gaps, lack of representation in leadership roles, and gender-based discrimination persist as pressing challenges that demand attention and action. This year's theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”, recognizing women who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions. I come from an industry that is predominantly powered by #women However, even today, most industries are dominated by men. In 2022, #data collected from the International Labour Organization concluded that, out of 180 countries - the #unitedstates ranks number 71 for % of women in the workforce. The percentage of women in the #workforce in the U.S is 46.38% Women remain #underrepresented at all levels, in most industries. 🌟 Happy Women's History Month! 🌟 As a Black woman, I celebrate this month by reflecting on the incredible journey and the monumental contributions of women to the civil rights movement and the ongoing fight for social justice, equity, and inclusion. Throughout history, women have been the backbone of change, often juggling multiple roles – from nurturing homes as mothers and wives to leading on the front lines of activism. Yet, the work and sacrifices of these remarkable women frequently go unrecognized, overshadowed by their male counterparts, despite their dual roles in the professional world and at home. This month, I’m excited to shine a light on the women who have tirelessly fought for our rights, often while managing a household and a career, proving resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Women's contributions to social justice have shaped our world, from Claudette Colvin’s and Rosa Parks' defiant stand against segregation to Fannie Lou Hamer's and Stacy Abram’s relentless fight for voting rights. These women, and countless others, have paved the way for future generations, embodying the essence of courage and determination. Their legacy is a testament to the power of women's voices in creating a more equitable and inclusive society. However, the fight for equality is ongoing. Women continue to face disparities in pay and representation, especially Black women and women of color, who encounter even greater obstacles. As we celebrate Women's History Month, I urge you to commit to action. I call on male allies to stand with us in advocating for equity and fair pay for all women. It's time to recognize and value the indispensable roles women play in our lives and our movements for change. Let's honor the women of the past by continuing their fight for justice and equality. Support women-led initiatives, advocate for policies that ensure fair treatment and opportunities, and celebrate the achievements of women in every field. We can create a world that values and uplifts every woman; it will take a collaborative approach. Change is a collective responsibility! It’s up to all of us. In honor of Women's History Month, our March 20 Action Conversation on Race will center Women in DEI. The National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2024 celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” This timely theme recognizes those women who do the necessary work of eliminating bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions. Yet, more than 30 states have introduced bills banning or limiting DEI initiatives during their current legislative session. Join the conversation and show your support for our panel of advocates as they discuss the value of DEI.
