Let's talk about the elephant in room future employers: I've been asked more than a few times if I'm going to try to go back to Disney. I think it may have even cost me roles, because they assume I'm a short timer just waiting for a role to open at Disney then I'll leave. I want to make it clear to all future employers, I have no plans to go back. I loved my time at Disney, but that time is over. All I'm looking forward to now is taking everything I've learned working with multiple companies inside Disney (ABC, ESPN, Pixar, Lucas, Marvel, Disney parks, Fox and Studios) to my new company to help grow and strengthen their security programs. I really thought long and hard about this during the first two weeks I was laid off. And as I've interviewed, I've become more and more excited about learning new environments and solving new problems. And most of all working with and mentoring new people! So for all my possible future employers reading this know my days at Disney are done when I accept your offer I don't have any plans to leave. I'm looking for my next career step, not just a job. A few people have asked me about #milk. So, here’s the story: Back when I was recruiting for Disney, I was looking for a Product Manager. I was sitting at my desk reviewing hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of resumes. 😴😴😴 I was reading this one guy’s resume and he had some decent experience. At the bottom of his resume under Hobbies and Interests (common 10 years ago), he listed the usual ones. Boating, nature walks, bike riding, etc, etc.. and the very last thing he listed was “milk”. This made me pause. Woke me up from my zombie trance. And I thought to myself, who puts milk under hobbies and interests. I re-read the resume and I sent it to the manager. The hiring manager responded: “Milk? We have to interview this guy”. One single word on his résumé got him a full round of interviews at The Walt Disney company. It’s critically important for job applicants to make a connection to the resume-reader. To make them pause or even to make them laugh. Sitting at your desk reading thousands of resumes a week is boring. I encourage all jobs seekers to do something a little bit unusual. To wake up a Recruiter! #ResumeIsKing
