Recently, Max Cyril, our Perth Acoustic Section Manager, joined a virtual panel discussion focusing on "Sound Solutions for Next-Generation Learning Spaces". Hosted by CPD Live, Max spoke alongside Rob Jones from Autex Acoustics Australia and Andrea Wilson from ARM Architecture. Max shared insights into the evolving role of acoustics in educational environments. He addressed both challenges and solutions to providing clear communication and overall acoustic comfort in modern learning spaces. A few key takeaways from Max’s session: • Embrace open layouts and flexible spaces to connect learning environments • Use acoustic zoning to manage noise transfer between open spaces • Integrate technology as a part of acoustic design considerations. “Modern educational spaces require a holistic approach to acoustics, where flexibility, technology and thoughtful design converge to create optimal learning environments. This ensures that students and educators can communicate effectively, regardless of the spatial configuration." – Max Cyril Congratulations, Max! Your insights highlighted how thoughtful acoustic design can truly transform learning environments. Witnessing the sheer high-decibel onslaught of active school-age children engaging, shouting, laughing, and working together can be a daunting experience, even exhausting. Designing a wonderful educational environment presents many challenges. In this session, we will focus on the magic of educational acoustics. Architects often overlook this critical aspect of school design. As more and more schools adopt the emerging 4th generation Student Collaboration model it has become vitally important that Architects and designers understand not only how to control sound and vibration in the learning environment but how to enhance intelligibility, and how to use acoustics as a real design tool to reinforce specific moods and enhance learning.
I'm speaking at EDspaces 2024, join me on the journey towards creating innovative and inspiring learning environments!

🏫 Transforming St. Bernard's Primary School's Multipurpose Hall with SoundFix Acoustics! 🛠️ St Bernard's Primary School faced a challenging acoustic environment in their multipurpose hall. The space, used for sports, assemblies, and other activities, had significant reverberation issues due to its hard surfaces. This led to excessive noise and echo, with reverberation times reaching up to 6.2 seconds, well above acceptable limits for educational environments. After SoundFix Acoustics installed a combination of panels on the walls and ceiling, the difference was immediate and profound. The reverberation times dropped significantly, with the reverberation times ranging between 1.9 and 2.2 seconds, bringing the acoustics in line with recommended standards for #educationalenvironments. Read full story here: https://lnkd.in/g2yRxCeq If your #learning space is experiencing similar problems, SoundFix Acoustics offers tailored solutions with expert advice and premium acoustic panels to enhance the comfort and functionality of your space. JASA EXPRESS LETTERS Perfectly diffuse sound fields play an important role in architectural acoustics and there are established theoretical characterizations of perfect diffuseness. However, real rooms are not perfectly diffuse. These researchers aim to spatially characterize pseudo-perfect diffuseness: https://lnkd.in/gKjdbr_J #acoustics

One thing that really sets us apart in the acoustics solutions space is our data driven approach to tackling acoustic challenges. Our advanced modelling capabilities allow us to demonstrate exactly how your space will be transformed with our acoustic treatment products. So you know exactly what you are getting. In this example, we modelled the acoustics for a school hall to show what it would sound like before and after treatment, giving the facilities manager a good idea of the transformation they should expect in their hall. Are you ready to transform your space? Get in touch and let's model what it could sound like. #HappyMonday #AcousticsSOS

🚨 Third TU/e Building Acoustics Internal Coding Workshop 🚨 We wrapped up our third internal coding workshop, and it was a fantastic blend of learning, collaboration, and teambuilding! This year, we dived deep into our open source room acoustics software. 👩🏼💻👨🏼💻 Our colleagues got hands-on with the wave-based DG and energy DE methods developed by Huiqing Wang and Ilaria Fichera. Throughout the workshop, these codes and their documentation were used and improved. We conducted a blind room acoustic comparison using two spaces at the location of our away days. 📈 This workshop highlighted the power of collaboration in science, especially when it comes to enhancing open-source tools. By working together, we aim to provide society and industry with better software solutions. 🎧 To get an idea, listen to the auralized sound in the corridor, created from a measured impulse response and a hybrid DG/DE result. 📂💻 Curious about our open source room acoustics tools? They are still in development phase at GitHub https://lnkd.in/ePyPhV8P public workshops on them will follow later! #OpenSource #RoomAcoustics #Collaboration #Innovation #TeamBuilding #Science #SoftwareDevelopment

The Concept of Any Media is its User - A talk by Noiascape for the The London School of Architecture https://lnkd.in/epTSDZxM It was a pleasure to recently be invited by the LSA to talk with Samantha Hardingham about the complex intersection of space, technology and media. In the talk, Noiascape founders Thomas Teatum & James Teatum set out how their approach to #design , #development and operations is constantly looking to expand the #social and #cultural opportunity of the city. In the film, Noiascape describe how they use innovative strategies to combine capital, spatial organisation and use to create greater benefits for owners, users and the local community. Testone Factory and High Street House show how Noiascape's approach has expanded the concept of work and home. By integrating new types of public uses within the projects and making them available to local creatives, Noiascape has found a way to support emerging creative talent. Noiascape are creating a new type of development approach that looks to expand how value is distributed. This approach looks to make social and cultural growth in parallel with economic growth.

Thanks to the University of Hartford ASA local chapter for having our own Arthur van der Harten to present: “Shaping Sound with Pachyderm: Open-Source Acoustic Simulation for Music, Speech, and Noise in Buildings”. In alignment with our core values of artistry, community, and accuracy, Arthur showcased Pachyderm—a powerful open-source tool designed to simulate acoustic environments using geometrical and numerical acoustics simulation techniques. In cooperation with ORASE (Open Research in Acoustical Science and Education), the presentation delved into the challenges, real-world case studies, and the potential of open source software in addressing the most challenging problems facing acousticians with flexible tools. It’s through tools like Pachyderm that we continue to foster a collaborative community, driven by our commitment to accuracy and artistry. We're excited to see the continued impact of open-source on the future of acoustic design, and hope that Hartford and other partners will do great things with these tools. #AcousticScience #OpenSource #ArtistryInAcoustics #CommunityDriven #PachydermSimulation #SoundMapping #AcousticalSocietyOfAmerica
