Consistency and implementation: A Path to Success
This morning, I hit the golf course early, only to find a thick layer of fog covering everything. Six months ago, I probably would’ve packed it in and called it a day, unsure where my ball would go. But today, I pushed ahead, trusting the consistency I’ve built with practice (and a few bad shots).
That’s a lot like how we are currently rolling out new technology and adding it to our sales process. The path ahead isn’t clear, and there are bound to be some bumps along the way. But, like in golf, consistency is key. We won’t get everything right on the first swing, but with time and practice, we’ll be delivering something incredible for our customers.
Also, I know there are way better golfers than me that are reading his post. I accept all feedback on my swing!!

This serves as a continuation of a post shared on February 18, Call me old school but I believe salespeople are getting too far away from their customers.
Initially, I intended to kick off this continuance with quotes from the iconic movie "Glengarry Glen Ross," specifically the famous lines, "Coffee is for Closers"... "Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired." However, my narrative took a turn when I stumbled upon our 2016 New and Improved Organizational Chart, it was just like Wile E. Coyote's elaborate blueprints to catch the Roadrunner.
The crux of the matter lies in the transformation that unfolded around 2016, not just in the company I was associated with but also across various broadcast companies. It commenced with the centralization of traffic, followed by the consolidation or integration of national sales. This restructuring journey then cascaded into significant overhauls within local sales departments. The shift involved a pivot from core product focus to a myriad of offerings, accompanied by the introduction of intricate compensation plans and the creation of what seemed like arbitrary job titles.
The consequence of such organizational complexity was confusion among employees, it created a lack of accountability & trust, a talent drain, and an overall descent into mediocrity. It's akin to Wile E. Coyote's genius plans to capture the Roadrunner—ambitious but ultimately doomed to fail.
While I speculate that revisions have occurred since 2018 when I choose to leave, it is disheartening to acknowledge the departure of numerous valuable individuals from the industry during this tumultuous period.
Personally, I opted for a different trajectory. Today, I take pride in being the owner of a small #CTV#Streaming company that upholds significant values. Embracing an old-school ethos, I hold dear the authentic relationships with my clients, considering them my true north in the ever-evolving landscape of business.

Great to hear Roger Black speak this morning at Reigate Manor.
He spoke inspiringly about the key moments in his life that defined success.
For him, the main one was winning the silver medal in the 400m sprint at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
A year before someone had suggested to him that his goal should be “to run 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 perfect race”.
In other words, stop worrying about the competition and just focus on what you can do to be your best.
I really like this because in business, as in sport, we can easily get distracted by what our competitors are doing.
When competitors reduce prices, your first reaction is often to follow suit so you don’t lose out.
But this can be the start of a vicious cycle to lower profits.
Much better to focus on your distinctive advantages and devise the best business offering for your customers that you can.
If you work (train) hard to justify and maintain your price premium, success (in the form of higher profits) will always follow.

Every game, we’d go in with a well-thought-out game plan, but the difference was in the execution. Once the whistle blew, it was time to act—no hesitation, just relentless urgency.
In sales, the same principle applies. You can plan and strategize all you want, but it’s the action you take, the urgency to execute that makes the difference. The faster you move from plan to execution, the faster you see results. LET'S GO!
