The 10th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is Reduced Inequalities. This is one of the crucial topics which YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa tackled with the members of the 58th cohort under the theme “Diversity and Inclusion” This theme when expounded on further, means being more equitable and inclusive when forming our teams as well as working with our teams. The facilitators Madam Lucy Muchiri and Mr. Joel Asiago emphasized that as leaders, we must be intentional about learning to work with people of different races, religions, social status, political opinion to mention but a few. We also delved into the various types of marginalization and learnt how to address our unconscious biases in order to drive our teams to effectively working together to complete tasks and ensure productivity. My take-home was that building more inclusive societies, leaders are able to promote creativity, create harmony in their teams, and facilitate engagement and trust which ultimately improves the work performance of the various teams. I appreciate the efforts of YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa which takes action to connect young leaders from several African countries including Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, South Sudan, DRC and Uganda. It’s so exciting to have some of them as my class mates in the 58th cohort! The leadership stage needs young individuals with ideas and the energy to contribute to national, continental, and global development. Yes, we can be impactful, and we can forge a future that works for everyone. But what are you doing as a young leader? What kind of leadership do you envision for your country, your continent and the world you live in? How do you see yourself? What's your focus? What Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) can you start addressing in your community, and your country? Too many questions; however, these questions can all be answered, and that's your starting point. As we collectively reflect on these questions, our roles, and our involvement in world affairs, start with an action. We are needed everywhere, and in every sector; in Entrepreneurship, in Civic Leadership, and in Public Administration. Start now. Think about the kind of leadership you would need and be your kind of leader. Challenge the status quo. The wellbeing of our future lies in our hands. What are you doing with it? Change and innovation require a collective endeavor. Over the past few weeks my ideas and perspectives on Africa's progress have broadened through interactions and networks with fellow youths from across the continent. "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek" - Barack Obama. And, I leave you with this: 'Aspire to inspire before we expire'. #yalinetwork #youthempowerment #innovation #sustainabledevelopment #agriculture #Agenda2063 #Agenda2030 #TheAfricaWeWant #agribusiness YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa, Accra

Africa's Traditional Leadership and Sustainable Development Forum 2024 The journey towards sustainable development in Africa has seen significant strides in poverty reduction, education, and healthcare, as highlighted in the Sustainable Development Goals Report 2023. However, despite these advancements, the path is still obstructed by complex challenges that require inclusive and innovative approaches. One critical, yet often overlooked, element in this equation is traditional leadership, which holds the potential to bridge the gap between policy and practice at the grassroots level. Recognizing the pivotal role of traditional leaders in many African communities, the University of Bradford School of Management is bringing together business leaders, African traditional leaders, academics, students, and the general public to explore how these leadership structures can be integrated into broader frameworks for sustainable development. We are deeply honored to have His Majesty Osagyefuo Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin, King of Akyem Abuakwa, as our keynote speaker. His deep insights on how traditional leadership can be harnessed to drive sustainable development will be a highlight of the event. [See attached flyer for event details] Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to contribute to a critical conversation and gain invaluable insights. 🔗 Register Here: https://lnkd.in/ewh424zK and be part of shaping the future of sustainable development in Africa! "Our ability to make a greater impact increases exponentially when we embrace public-private partnerships. Together with various partners, we must ask ourselves pertinent questions: What problems do we want to solve? How can we jointly develop sustainable solutions for our communities? What is everyone's stake in this? There is so much social innovation and so many opportunities to celebrate in Africa. The potential for solutions is extraordinary, but this potential can only be harnessed if we fully embrace partnerships. Most importantly, we must lead with impact and support our work with evidence. When you can change somebody's life as an individual, you have achieved the best kind of impact. But this is not enough; systems strengthening to guarantee systemic change is essential for sustainable progress. By working with various stakeholders to build resilient systems, we ensure that the positive changes are not only impactful but also enduring and scalable." Karen Hanrahan, ChildFund International Chief Global Impact and Innovation Officer, addressing participants at the ongoing Africa Leadership Team meeting in Addis Ababa. #partnerships #impact #innovation #leadership

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 Leadership is about having a clear vision and the ability to inspire others to follow it. A true leader is not just someone with followers but someone who shares the grace of leadership with others. The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet currently and into the future. It's implementation, however, seems to experience enormous challenges stemming from the breed of leadership and leaders we have in our countries. I believe the youth should purpose to change this narrative by working towards providing a different breed of leadership and be more intentional in achieving the goals for the future. It is possible. #AIIDEV Africa #SDGs.

Our team leader Nelly Ndenya was honored to be a judge for the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa Cohort 60 Design Challenge. The Young African Leadership Initiative is an initiative by the #US Government to #empower the next generation of #African leaders. The YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa provides training and post-training support to young leaders aged between 18 and 35 years from 14 countries in East and Central Africa namely, Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. It trains in three tracks: #Business and entrepreneurship, #Civic leadership, and #Public management, and has an alumni population of over 6000. As part of the judging panel, she evaluated 9 promising innovators from 9 countries across Africa. A few things stood out; 1. African youths have so many scaleable ideas, investing in them can yield impactful and sustainable solutions for Africa. 2. Diversity exposes one to a rich array of cultural contexts and innovative approaches to addressing regional challenges. This highlights the importance of understanding diverse perspectives when creating impactful solutions. 3. The world thrives in healthy competition. 4. Training and mentorship are critical for #SustainedDevelopment whilst underscoring the importance of building networks and partnerships to achieve shared goals. 5. Platforms such as #YALI are the doors to ensuring success from the grassroots level. We there need to increase them. 6. As a judge, she had to assess ideas based on their merit while remaining unbiased. This honed her ability to apply critical thinking, consider feasibility, and assess their long-term impact. Finally, the Design Challenge emphasized the role of #community-driven solutions and reinforced how localized initiatives, when supported, can drive #sustainable change. This was an incredible opportunity to not only support the next generation of #African leaders, but also contribute to the #continent's growth, and its brighter future. Thank you YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa. #EmpoweringAfrica #judgingpanel #YouthsForSustainableDevelopment
