How To Make Sure Fish And Other Seafood Are Fresh And Safe To Eat Fish and other seafood are a delicious and nutritious addition to any diet, but it's important to ensure they are fresh and safe to eat before consuming. Here are a few tips to follow when buying and handling seafood: 1. Look for clear eyes and firm flesh. When buying fish, look for clear and bright eyes, shiny scales, and firm flesh. If the fish looks dull or has a fishy smell, it may not be fresh. 2. Check the temperature. If buying fish from a seafood counter, make sure it's properly refrigerated. It should be kept at 40°F or below to prevent bacteria growth and spoilage. 3. Know your storage times. Fresh seafood should be consumed within 1-2 days of purchase. If you don't plan on eating it right away, store it in the refrigerator at 40°F or below and use it within 3-4 days. 4. Cook seafood properly. Cook fish and other seafood to an internal temperature of 145°F to kill any harmful bacteria and ensure it's safe to eat. 5. Follow FDA advisories. Be aware of any FDA advisories or warnings regarding specific types of seafood, especially if it's caught in certain areas or during specific times of the year. Have you ever wondered what's really in the sauce you enjoy at your local food market or fast food joints? 🍅 ❌ Attention all foodies and health enthusiasts! Well, the truth might not be very palatable. That delicious-looking red sauce you've been enjoying is not made of tomato, but instead, it's made up of potato starch, corn starch, gums, preservatives, and colors. 🥔 🥕 And that's not all. Most of the sauces we eat in fast food joints and wayside restaurants are vegetable sauces, made of carrot, pumpkin, and other vegetables that look and taste very similar to tomato sauce but are much more economical. While they might seem like a healthy alternative, these vegetable sauces can contain added sugars, salts, and unhealthy additives. We have been informed that vegetable sauce is retailed @ Rs. 10/- per beer bottle in certain towns. Of course I have never seen it. It may be true or not. Its recipe is supposed to be: Per 100 kilo sauce 3 kilo Corn starch or maida – It will thicken the sauce. No pulp. Saccharine instead of sugar Salt Acetic acid Color – used for dying cloth – it will not fade Sodium Benzoate Red chilly powder to give pungency. This is filled in used beer bottle and sold to wayside thela, serving burger and other fast food. One can imagine its cost and quality. As consumers, we deserve to know what goes into our food and make informed choices about what we eat. While it might be disappointing to learn that our favorite sauce is not made of tomatoes, let's use this as an opportunity to be more conscious about our food choices. So next time you order a sauce, take a closer look at the label and ask questions about the ingredients. Let's prioritize our health and well-being by making informed food choices and supporting the use of healthy, natural ingredients in our meals. 🍔 🍜 Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer) #Labelpadhegaindia #FoodPharmer #LabelPadhegaIndia #HealthyIndia #Readlabels
