We were honored to host Senator Maria Cantwell's legislative aide Astor Tellman at our Rainier Beach clinic this past Friday! Astor chatted with Neighborcare team members Chief of Community Engagement Candace Jackson, CEO Rashad A. Collins, and Rainier Beach Clinic Administrator Maureen Lara about the importance of advocating for ongoing federal financial support of CHCs, which are the nation's largest primary care provider. They talked about continuing to support the 340B drug pricing program to ensure transparency and accountability that leads to ongoing benefit for CHCs like Neighborcare who leverage these funds to support critical programs like our own midwifery program. Thank you so much to Astor for making the trip and for the lovely compliment about how impressive it was that so many services are co-located at Rainier Beach! Looking forward to continued collaboration with Senator Cantwell's office on crucial funding and support. #ValueCHCs #NeighborcareHealth #Neighborcare #Seattle #PugetSound #HealthcareForAll #HealthEquity #CHC #CommunityAction #SeattleNonProfit

Useful insights into maternity and neonatal safety
There is rightly considerable national focus on supporting maternity services to learn from harm in a meaningful way, but with increased scrutiny can come increased pressure on staff. In our recent Shared Insights session, we looked at how to ensure that there is accountability and openness with families in an environment which supports staff when things sadly go wrong. This session features insights on: - Empowering staff to speak up by Bridget Prosser, Partner in our employment team - MNSI's investigation process: a focus on supporting and learning, presented by MNSI's Julie Shaw - From Incident to Inquest: a Trust perspective, presented by Sarah Noble, Director of Midwifery, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust - Supporting NHS staff through the claims and inquest process, presented by Sian Brown Partner in our specialist Maternity Division Explore these valuable insights here: https://bit.ly/3AizZqA #SharedInsights #Maternity #Health

$78,000 penalties for individual staff for code of conduct breaches were criticised by most key provider and worker voices in their submissions on the draft of the new Aged Care Act. Critics include the main provider association, Aged & Community Care Providers Association, the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation, HSU National, large providers like Bolton Clarke, and faith-based networks like Catholic Health Australia. Yet this issue isn’t mentioned anywhere in the published consultation feedback summary. The specific concern with penalties for the code is that they apply to low-income individuals for even minor breaches of the fairly vague and subjective aged care code of conduct, with prosecutors only needing to prove the offense against a civil standard. It’s grossly unfair and unnecessary given other remedies like banning orders and standard criminal offences. However, this is just one example. There are plenty of other important points made in various submissions and meetings that the consultation summary ignores. The summary also tends to summarise sentiment rather than substantive arguments. This summary isn’t the only way that the Government synthesises feedback. But it’s still concerning that it misses so many major issues raised by key stakeholders. I'm not even surprised. Just disappointed. #agedcare

This International Women’s Day, we are spotlighting some exemplary women at the ANMF ACT. We interviewed Shelly Berge, a Workplace Delegate at the ANMF ACT, about the nursing and midwifery profession and who is inspiring her this International Women’s Day. 1. What is the biggest challenge you face with ongoing professional development? Time and money! Victoria has the right idea, with free undergraduate nursing degrees. It would be good to have funded post graduate education programs, with employer/government support for the time involved. 2. How do you think the nursing and midwifery profession has contributed to the economic empowerment of women? By becoming a profession rather than a vocation, nursing is recognised as specialised work that is paid accordingly, (though not handsomely). The flexibility of the hours are helpful for those of us with other responsibilities. 3. Which women inspire you? Aboriginal women! They have suffered so many disadvantages yet still respond so generously, such as with the Uluru Statement from the Heart. I wish we had more Aboriginal nurses. #anmfact #union #IWD2024 #health #midwives #nurses #act #canberra

🤔Pondering a SIGNIFICANT barrier to Midwifery care by insurance plan for families that receive TriCare (a Federal carrier). Can someone explain how the federal government has allocated millions of dollars to educate more midwives that attend accredited education programs that lead to the CM and CPM credential, but TriCare will not reimburse the Certified Midwives and Certified Professional Midwives that complete these academic pathways, also endorsed by ACOG? https://lnkd.in/gYtWnZwf https://lnkd.in/gHiuj5U9 “TRICARE doesn't cover midwife services by a lay midwife, Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) or Certified Midwife (CM).” https://lnkd.in/gZXqR88C 👉Perhaps aggressive education and advocacy needs to be prioritized with CMS and TriCare so the very professionals you are espousing needed in the workforce are reimbursed for services they provide! #GrowMidwives #knowledgeispower #RemoveTheBarriers

Motivated Individual who believes that team work can turn small groups into powerful changemakers. Research focused under-grad student at Dow Medical College and an enthusiastic social cause volunteer.
We can all donate ourselves. But there is more to be done. Convincing others to donate as well! We all meet friends and family members throughout the weeks and days. Knowing how noble a cause The Indus Hospital is, here are two personal strategies that I use for myself to convince my circle on donating to Indus: Personal Stories and Testimonials: I share compelling personal stories and testimonials from patients who have benefited from the hospital's services. Highlighting real-life examples of how the hospital has positively impacted lives can create an emotional connection and a sense of urgency. I use visuals like photos or videos to make the stories more impactful. Transparent Use of Funds: I emphasize the hospital's transparency and efficient use of donations. I provide clear information on how the funds are allocated and the tangible outcomes they achieve. This, I believe, highlights the hospital's track record of financial integrity and successful projects can build trust and motivate potential donors.
A Remarkable Day at Community Health & MCH Center, Nokkundi On Thursday, August 1, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved at the Community Health & MCH Center in Nokkundi. Under the meticulous supervision of Dr. Bakhtawar, LHV Farzana, and CMW Basra Gul, two healthy babies—a boy and a girl—were successfully delivered. This occasion marked the first deliveries since IHHN initiated 24/7 services, including Midwifery, at our center on June 25, 2024. These services have been a beacon of hope for the marginalized and underserved community in Nokkundi, where access to comprehensive healthcare has long been a challenge. The dedication and expertise of our team ensured smooth and complication-free deliveries, bringing palpable joy and relief as the families welcomed their new members. #IHHN #Achievement #Health #Healthcare #Milestone #Nokkundi #Baby #Delivery #Twins #Midwifery #Success #SuccessStory

Good Morning Nurses, Midwives and Students of the Profession Before you join a Regsitered Trade Union (RTU) i recommend you do some thorough research as some organisations hold themselves out to be a 'Union' but they are not. These businesses do not have the same rights of representation as the ANMF, HSU, AWU or any other RTU in Australia. Pro Choice Union had submitted an application with the Fair Work Commission and QLD Industrial Relations Commision to become a RTU but they have withdrawn the applicaiton with FWC for a number of reasons - see the link to FWC below. The Red Union hub which includes Nurses Professional Association Australia (NPAA) are not yet a RTU. Many Professional Associations include Pii with membership eg ACN but they may not advise or represent you if you have an Industrial matter including the Disciplinary process. Nursing and Midwifery Advocacy Solutons (NAMAS) are not a Union, we do not have Industrial Rights of representation. However, we are here to assist nurses, midwives and students of the Profession resolve workplace conflict including non-compliance of Industrial, Professional or WHS frameworks by offering information, resources, advice, options and ongoing support at a very affordable cost. We want to ensure that NAMAS subscribers seeing Industrial Representation from their Union, Association or Workplace Dispute Lawyer have all the evidence, and information required to proceed. Alternatively as a NAMAS subscriber you might want to know what a particular employer policy or an Award clause means for you, you can send me an email with your query, or call me, as i will assist you understand the intent of the clause, policy or procedure. Cheers Vicky Stewart ( NAMAS Proprietor and Consultant) https://lnkd.in/g7293-S6 https://lnkd.in/gRHzkSMP
