Diwali celebrations serve as a powerful reminder of the connections that blossom through cultural exchange! Residents at Daceyville Aged Care Home in Sydney joined Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) staff in a colourful display of culture and community to mark the annual festival of lights. With around 80 per cent of the staff hailing from Nepal, the event was a blend of tradition and togetherness, bringing joy to residents and caregivers alike. cc. Today's release of the federal government's 'health check' confirms the urgent financial challenges facing private hospitals in Australia. “Now we know the extent and seriousness of the problem facing private healthcare, the whole sector needs to move quickly and cooperatively to implement solutions in the national interest." Catholic Health Australia has put forward a number of solutions to address the viability of our not-for-profit hospitals, who provide 30 per cent of private hospital care, taking pressure off the public system. CHA Director of Health Policy Dr Katharine Bassett had a discussion with 2CC this morning about the removal of fibrin sealants from the Prescribed List. Fibrin sealants are essential for controlling bleeding during surgeries. Removing them from the Prescribed List could prevent patients from accessing these vital products. CHA is urging government to maintain these products on the Prescribed List until alternative funding arrangements are in place. Listen to the interview below. Jason Kara Adrian Kerr Alex L. Catholic Health Australia is calling on the government to review its decision to remove some surgery sealants from the Prescribed List on November 1. Fibrin sealants help heal wounds and play a key role in ensuring patient safety and reducing complications. Their removal undermines efforts to reduce patient out-of-pocket costs if hospitals are forced to pass on the costs. Medibank is right to point out that hospital in the home care can deliver a top quality patient experience while freeing up hospital beds and saving billions in healthcare costs. However, the main reason it is not widely available in Australia is because insurers are not sufficiently funding it. There is a scattered and piecemeal approach which means some patients are covered but many are not. The clear solution is to restore default benefits to hospital in the home care, ensuring patients can receive the same care at home as they would in a hospital. This would mean patients can elect to be treated at home when their doctor agrees it is appropriate. This simple and effective change to our insurance policy settings would give patients the control over their health care we know they want, while saving the health system billions. https://lnkd.in/g29kPdqf Catholic Health Australia Jason Kara Dr Katharine Bassett Laura Haylen Annabelle W. The annual private health insurance premium round process is in need of genuine reform, as funding is not keeping pace with the rising costs of delivering care. CHA, the Australian Private Hospitals Association, and the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) have written to Health Minister Mark Butler to advocate for these critical changes ahead of the 2025 premium round. 🚨BREAKING NEWS: Australian Private Hospitals Association, Catholic Health Australia and the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) have jointly written to Health Minister Mark Butler calling for changes to the process which decides the annual increase to premiums. MTAA CEO Ian Burgess said the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority data analysis shows Australia’s MedTech industry has delivered more than $2.5 billion in savings to health insurers since 2017 – savings insurers are yet to pass on in full to consumers. “Claims by the corporate health insurer lobby that medical devices (through the Prescribed List) were to blame for increased pressure on premiums has been resoundingly refuted by health sector stakeholders. It’s time government acted to stop insurers from raking in record profits during a cost-of-living crisis, and put in place safeguards to ensure patients, not corporate health insurers profits, are put first.” https://lnkd.in/g-a7Ngwt
