Recent events in the UK have highlighted the critical importance of standing united in our pursuit for equality, inclusivity, and connection. It is crucial, now more than ever, to support those who may feel unsafe or have been affected by the unacceptable anti-immigrant and far-right violence within our communities. If you have been affected by the recent disturbances and are in need of assistance, or you are a member of a business who wishes to help, please get in contact via the link in our comments.

Head of Equalities Equity Diversity Inclusion & Belonging, (EEDIB) Chief Executive Directorate Board Member @ Hackney Thinking Spaces |
It was destiny……. After a series of encounters with colleagues in our network it was suggested that Mathurini Visakan (MCIM)and myself should meet as we were working in similar roles and had the same passion for our work in local government. Well…. we finally met for dinner and what was supposed to be couple of hours turned into over 4 hours of stimulating, informative and encouraging conversation. I have learnt so much this afternoon; not only is Mathurini Visakan (MCIM) an inspirational leader and doing amazing work in London Borough of Camden but also the importance of local authorities working together on the equalities agenda. Networking and mutual collaboration allows us to share best practices, leverage resources, amplify impact, and build stronger communities. Promoting equality and tackling discrimination are crucial priorities for local government. By joining forces and working together towards a common goal, we can create a more equitable and just society for those we serve. Let's continue to collaborate, innovate, and advocate - I’m here for this!! #localgovernment #equity #collaboration #workingtogether #innovate #network

The prime minister has vowed to do "whatever it takes to bring these thugs to justice" In light of the recent and deeply troubling incidents of violence and racism across the UK, our hearts go out to those affected by these senseless attacks. The recent unrest, particularly targeting asylum seekers and ethnic minority communities, is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges we face in our fight for justice and equality. As a company dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), we unequivocally condemn these acts of hatred and violence. We stand in solidarity with all communities impacted by these events and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their culture, ethnicity, religion, or background. Together, we can make a difference and build a more inclusive and compassionate society. #StopTheHate #DiversityAndInclusion #StandAgainstRacism #CommunitySupport #Solidarity #NoToViolence #EqualityForAll #InclusionMatters #SupportEachOther #TogetherWeRise #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Belonging #DEIB #DEIBEvents

I am so saddened, angry and upset, to have witnessed the surge of unrest and racist behaviour across our cities. These acts of hate and discrimination have no place in our society, and it is so important that we, as a community, take a stand against them. As a leader in the city of Manchester and a human who loves all humans, I am committed to fostering an environment that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals. I believe that every person, regardless of their background, deserves to be treated with dignity and kindness. Now more than ever, it is crucial for us to be actively anti-racist. This means not only condemning racist actions and rhetoric but also taking concrete steps to promote equity in our communities. We must educate ourselves and others, challenge discriminatory practices, and stand with racialised communities. Let us show that love, empathy, and unity can triumph over hate and division. Together, we can build a future where everyone feels valued and respected. I urge all of you to stand up and stand together against racism. Let us advocate for diversity, and be the change we want to see in the world. Alice Funke Solomon Jumoke Quadri Nurturing Foundations Manchester Youth Zone

Technology Rising Star Award Winner 2024 | Global Sales Leader | Supplier Diversity Lead | Social Mobility Advocate
I’ve struggled to find the words to express how I feel about the riots. I am hurting, just like so many others. Being told by family and friends to be safe, seeing colleagues of colour who feel they can't travel, and hearing partners express concern about commuting into London—it’s all a stark reminder of the deep-rooted issues we still face. Racism in the UK continues to be a source of deep disappointment and pain. It’s heartbreaking that in a country as diverse and vibrant as ours, people are still being treated unfairly based on the colour of their skin. What will it take for us to finally achieve true equality in our society? We must do better—not just as a community, but as individuals. Change begins with each of us. It means confronting our own biases, standing up against discrimination, and creating an environment where everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. We cannot afford to stay silent. Let’s keep having these difficult conversations, let’s educate ourselves, and let’s fight for the systemic changes needed to make equality a reality. We owe it to ourselves, to each other, and to future generations. #Racism #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion #UK #SocialJustice #StandUp #ChangeStartsWithUs #Respect #HumanRights

Currently the UK is witnessing appalling acts of racist violence that have left us all reeling. These acts not only harm individuals but tear at the very fabric of our society. We must stand united against hate and violence, championing the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in every sphere of our lives. I have been lucky to have experienced life in communities & organisations that have encouraged us to celebrate our differences, learn, consider, reflect on what they are and how we are better as a Society for them. We have a duty to foster environments where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. Here are some ways to be a proactive ally: 1. Educate Yourself: Understand the history and context of racial issues. Knowledge is a powerful tool against ignorance and prejudice. 2. Speak Up: If you witness racist behavior, challenge it. Silence can be interpreted as complicity. 3. Support Victims: Offer your support to those affected by racism. Sometimes, a simple message of solidarity can make a world of difference. 4. Promote Diversity: Advocate for diverse hiring practices and inclusive workplace cultures. Representation matters. 5. Engage in Dialogue: Have open and honest conversations about race and discrimination with your colleagues, friends, and family. Change starts with dialogue. 6. Participate in Training: Attend workshops and training sessions on diversity and inclusion to better understand how you can contribute to a more inclusive environment. We all have a role to play in building a society where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive. Let’s commit to being allies in the fight against racism and stand together for a future defined by compassion, respect, and unity. #Diversity #Inclusion #Allyship #StandAgainstRacism #Unity Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences on how we can further promote inclusivity and support one another in these challenging times.

Happy International Social Justice Day! This year’s theme "Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances" reminds us of the critical importance of collaboration and partnership in tackling the world's challenges. By choosing this theme, the UN is putting emphasis on the importance of collaboration and partnership in addressing the world's challenges. Focusing on fundamental rights, employment opportunities, social protections, and constructive social dialogue is crucial for placing social justice at the forefront. As grave injustices persist, with widespread labor insecurity and high inequality, the World Day of Social Justice stresses the need to build fairer and more equitable societies. Social development and social justice are essential for achieving and maintaining peace and security within and among nations. On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to promoting social justice, advocating for the rights of all individuals, and working towards a world where everyone can thrive with dignity and equality. #SocialJusticeDay #DecentWork #FairGlobalization #HumanRights #Equality

This year's International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) theme is No One Left Behind: Equality, Freedom and Justice For All. ✊ As hate against 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities rises here in Canada and elsewhere in the world, we know that only through solidarity for each other can we create a world without injustice, where no one is left behind. 🌈 Check out our Linktree for resources and presentations on the discrimination faced by 2S/LGBTQIA+ people in Canada, and what our communities are doing to combatting it: https://linktr.ee/thecbrc

Altruism and humanity help us fight for a better world. On #WorldNGODay, we would like to underline the role of non-governmental organisations in raising awareness about the importance of promoting #HumanRights for all. In this sense, from EBU, we commit ourselves to keep advocating for a more inclusive and accessible society for blind and partially sighted people in Europe where equality and non-discrimination become key values.

I was asked if I would go on national radio this morning to discuss the Frank Hester issue. However, in my experience of being on radio to discuss inequality you normally only get about 3-5 minutes air time, so I declined as this issue is huge and a few minutes is not good enough. Also, as an individual who has a lived experience of racism from childhood to adulthood, emotionally it is not good to be cut short in what I need to express. So, to protect my wellbeing, I sent a written response. I don’t feel able to discuss this on the radio, given how emotionally triggering these topics are. Here’s a written response instead Thank you for inviting me to discuss the recent allegations against Frank Hester. While I am unable to participate in a live discussion, I would like to share my thoughts in writing and be heard by you all Racist comments and actions are neither jokes nor banter. They inflict deep emotional wounds and perpetuate systemic inequalities. Individuals who experience racism do so from childhood through adulthood, facing daily microaggressions and overt discrimination. It is deeply troubling that Frank Hester, who has allegedly made racist remarks and exhibited discriminatory behaviour, continues to be accepted as a major donor to the Conservative Party. This raises significant ethical concerns about the values and integrity the party wishes to uphold. Allowing such an individual the privilege of funding political activities sends a dangerous message that racism can be overlooked if accompanied by financial contributions. We must hold individuals and institutions accountable for perpetuating racism. This is not just about one man's actions but about the broader implications for our society and the message it sends to marginalised communities. Thank you for providing a platform to address these important issues. Alyson Malach Director Equality and Diversity UK
