We're incredibly excited to introduce Benn Wiebe, our new Head of Partnerships at Neon Picturehouse. With over a decade of cultivating partnerships between household brands, non-profits and agencies, Benn currently sits on the board of a number of organisations, including Screen South, HFP, Treun House Atelier, SIE Society, Think-Film Impact Production, ClimateCulture, GEM Global Environment Media and dozens more across the film, TV and gaming industries. Additionally, Benn also provides ongoing consultation and mentorship for new enterprise businesses at Creative UK and students at the National Film & Television School. We love what Benn is doing in the industry and we're excited for him to join us on our mission of connecting people through human storytelling!

I am often asked why I left my performing arts studio, even though the pandemic was incredibly disruptive to our business, ability to offer performing opportunities, and lives. This gifted article link may shed some light on the subject. As it indicates, rising costs and real estate constraints are significant hurdles that are only increasing, causing theater companies to reduce programs, consolidate on season planning, and share space. This results in less work for artists as well as less art for the community they serve. We need MORE organizations to collaborate on space, co-productions, and community-building. We need more sustainable models moving forward, in order to provide meaningful arts programming. #theater #collaboration #community #sustainablemodels

This week the The Film and TV Charity launched Reel Impact, their new diversity grants programme. The Film and TV Charity has launched a strategic programme to support mid-level Black and Global Majority people working in film, TV and cinema, along with production company and industry organizations run by people from those backgrounds. Reel Impact will seek to address the impacts of systemic industry racism, drive better opportunities and support and develop the careers of under-represented talent. An initial round of grants of up to £10,000 ($12,500) for individuals and £25,000 for companies and orgs is being offered, with a second strand of the program aim at developing partnerships with organisations that can support Black and Global Majority professionals and creatives with access to skills and leadership development, networking and career development. Grant applicants need to demonstrate how the funds will benefit Black and Global Majority projects in the UK. Funding will be awarded in three rounds over two years, with the first round open from May 13 to June 30 2024. The first grants will be awarded in September, with further rounds expected in November this year and September 2025. “The grants element is intended to service the specific needs of applicants, rather than being oppressively prescriptive – so as our campaign launches, we want to encourage everyone in the film, TV, and cinema industry to help us spread the word throughout their networks,” said Marcus Ryder CEO of the Film and TV Charity. I had two of the best work meetings this week with similar messages, the oversaturation of bad news and big challenges that need to be fought make us desensitized and apathetic about the role we choose to play in those fights. We rarely have the energy or capacity to commit to big dreams and bold action anymore. Clara Campbell leads our advocacy team and she lives by this quote by Anatole France. "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." It's hard to keep fighting the good fight when you get told no, loose funding, don't have the budget, or someone doesn't believe in your plan. Worse yet, maybe you don't believe in your plan.
