💥 Couldn't be prouder of the impact our teammate Arianna Liconti made at the #OceanLiteracyWorldConference in Venice! For #WorldOceanDay, 131 UNESCO member state delegates and ocean literacy experts from around the globe gathered to contribute to the "Venice Declaration for Ocean Literacy." This collective document, outlined in ten points, offers concrete recommendations for rebalancing the relationship between humans and the Ocean. More than we ever imagined happened. 🌊 Marine citizen science was highlighted and endorsed in the #VeniceDeclaration on Ocean Literacy, which will soon be presented to policymakers and governments worldwide! Arianna had the honor of presenting, alongside brilliant colleagues, the goals of the declaration related to #OceanKnowledge and #TransdisciplinaryPartnerships. This includes acknowledging and supporting the crucial role of marine citizen science in policy, as well as other non-formal alliances at the science-society-policy interface. 💡 At Oceano Vox, marine #citizenscience is at our core. One of the most critical barriers to progress in the marine conservation sector is the lack of genuine understanding of the importance, vulnerability, and interdependence of ocean systems. It is imperative to enhance ocean literacy on a global scale as the ocean transcends state borders. 🌊🐳🐋 I'm glad I got my recommendation letter from BlueMinds4Teachers and I think I was lucky enough to join the training program to learn more about ocean literacy. The course, held from April 9-23, 2024, aimed to strengthen the skills of teachers and educators in Ocean Literacy (OL). It was designed through the collaboration of marine/freshwater researchers and experts in education and social sciences, with the framework of OL at its core - linking ocean science and education for sustainability. The course has been designed through the collaboration of marine and freshwater research scientists as Melita Mokos , University of Zadar , Croatia; Francesca Alvisi ,Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche Italy; Maria Cheimonopoulou , Hydrobiological Station of Pella , Greece and Panayota (Yolanda) Koulouri , HCMR, Greece), and experts from education and social sciences (Athanasios Mogias , Democritus University of Thrace, Greece; Evelyn Paredes Coral , European Marine Science Educators' Association (EMSEA) , Belgium; Silja Teege, Sea Teach , Mallorca, Spain. Central to this course was the framework of OL which aims to link Ocean Science and Education for Sustainability. BlueMinds4Teachers is implemented by the Hellenic Center for Marine Research , the Institute of Marine Sciences of National Research Council and the University of Zadar with the support of EU4Ocean Coalition funded by the European Commission. 🚨 Underwater Noise Joint Action update! 🚨 🌊 We're halfway there! The mid-term meeting of the five projects from the #JPIOceans Joint Action on #UnderwaterNoise took place on 20-21 June in Padua, Italy. 🛠️ Led by Italy and Germany, this #JointAction focuses on the impacts of underwater noise on marine ecosystems. The meeting served to assess #advancements, strengthen #collaboration, and plan impactful #dissemination of project results. 🔊 Presentations featured insights from the projects #ORCHESTRA | #DeuteroNoise | #DIAPHONIA | #SONORA | #PUREWIND 🎓 The meeting included a science communication training course and proposed activities to enhance outreach and engagement. The ECRS is held every four years and hosted in European countries on a rotation basis by the European Chapter of the International Coral Reef Society (ICRS). ECRS 2024 will be held in Naples, Italy at the Città della Scienza and at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station. For this edition of ECRS, the theme is bridging knowledge gaps between tropical, temperate, and cold-water coral reefs. The symposium will bring together coral reef scientists, researchers, conservationists, policymakers and reef managers to present the latest research findings and exchange current knowledge critical to advising international and national policies in the conservation and sustainable use of coral reefs. He will share perspectives on marine spatial planning in Brazil, mainly from a fisheries perspective. This could potentially inform the ongoing Barbados marine spatial planning process.    Marine spatial planning is more than just ocean zoning. It aims to prioritise diverse ocean uses and users through an analysis of trade-offs along many dimensions that reflect the preferred directions of societal development and well-being. A well-informed society is critical for this decision-making.

Social and natural scientists from Northern Finland have collaborated with enthusiasm on this new publication about everyday life in the Arctic. This book consists of eleven peer-reviewed chapters providing valuable empirical accounts of theoretical approaches relevant to a multiplicity of disciplines.
