🌊 Exciting news from #EuroGOOS! 🌊 🔵 We are pleased to announce that EuroGOOS has contributed to the Global Online Stakeholder Consultation for the Ocean Action Panels’ Concept Papers as part of the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference! 🌍 This consultation, held from July 26 to August 30, 2024, gathered insights from global stakeholders on critical ocean issues, including: 🔹 Status and trends in ocean health 🔹 Challenges and opportunities for sustainable ocean management 🔹 New partnerships and recommendations to advance the implementation of SDG 14 (Life Below Water) 🔗 The report is now available here: https://lnkd.in/gpDd9xQU We are committed to shaping the future of global ocean governance by actively participating in dialogues that drive meaningful action. Our involvement reflects our dedication to advancing #OceanScience, supporting a broader European framework for #OceanObserving partnerships (the European Ocean Observing System framework #EOOS), and promoting #OceanLiteracy. 🔵 We are also thrilled to announce the publication of the National Charts on Ocean Observing and Monitoring as part of the European Ocean Observing System (#EOOS) initiative. These charts are the result of the efforts of the EOOS Resource Forum, which aims to enhance national observation initiatives for our oceans and coastal waters by identifying gaps, overcoming regulatory barriers, and ensuring harmonised data flows. Led by JPI Oceans, this initiative facilitates better coordination, learning from best practices, and recognising synergies across countries. Ultimately, it aims to improve the efficiency of policy and funding efforts towards a sustained European Ocean Observing System, as outlined in the EOOS Roadmap 2023-2027. 🔎 Read here the #SmartChain policy brief "Towards higher resource utilization in fisheries" 👉 https://lnkd.in/dTTSba4x. #SmartChain, one of the projects funded in the BlueBio Cofund 1st Additional Call, aims to develop approaches and tools for sustainable utilisation, production planning, logistics optimisation, and traceability to facilitate transfer of bio-resources from catch/production throughout the value chain of fisheries and aquaculture products. This policy brief highlights several key messages: 📌Profitability, available technology on board vessels and regulatory limitations are some of the key drivers of food loss and waste in the whitefish sector 📌 The majority of the food losses in the whitefish industry originates through discards at sea.  📌 Iceland has come further than Norway in resource utilization and processing into high value-added products.

Hatch has worked on developing comprehensive noise exposure guidelines and strategies for the National Marine Fisheries Service and has contributed to public awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of managing human-induced noise in the ocean. With the support of #DFO and #OKEANO partners, we ensured that every voice was heard by securing funding and visas for participants. 💥It was inspiring to witness the impact of our #ECOPs as they proposed solutions for improving the resilience of coastal communities and enhancing ocean observation.
