Today, we revisit the story of Mrs. Nwaobo Cecilia from Enugu state, whose life took a remarkable turn. In 2021, Mrs. Nwaobo Cecilia was Diagnosed with cataracts and faced complete blindness in both eyes, she struggled daily until her condition led to a dangerous incident at home. The impact on her daily life was profound, with even simple tasks becoming challenging. It was only when a neighbor recommended our foundation that hope began to emerge. We were honored to step in and assist Mrs. Cecilia. By connecting her with a good doctor and covering her surgery expenses, and was able to help restore her sight. Her story is a powerful reminder of the critical importance of eye health. Our eyes are precious, allowing us to work, learn, and connect with the world around us. Regular check-ups and timely treatment can prevent the kind of hardship Mrs. Cecilia endured. We encourage everyone to prioritize their eye health. Don't take your vision for granted. Schedule regular check-ups and seek medical attention at the first sign of vision problems. Remember, early intervention is key to maintaining healthy eyesight throughout your life. I want to share a bias I have noticed in medicine. I would like to hear your thoughts. Please share below: A woman comes to me for her annual exam. Shes had a left breast mass thats 3cm hurts daily, is bothersome and has shown up in imaging needing further imaging and often requires annual reimaging. Shes been told multiple times by surgeons, radiologists that its fine not cancerous so she doesn’t need removal. If that same woman had the same mass on her leg, thigh, vulva, anywhere else on her body but her breasts and it bothered her daily causing pain, surgeons would gladly remove it. Why because the mass is on her breast is there such a resistance to removing a mass thats causing daily discomfort?? In this scenerio I do know great breast surgeons who would caringly help this woman. So I do refer but why is this bias out there? I think best to identify the bias so we can actively change the thinking in our culture of medicine. #womenshealth #breasthealth #breastmedicine

I love seeing more awareness around endometriosis, especially on #LinkedIn considering the number of women, like myself, who have masked their pain every month and continued performing at work. However, this heightened awareness still overlooks a grim reality: delayed diagnosis can lead to hysterectomies from #adenomyosis, fertility challenges, and significant financial burdens when trying to salvage your reserves (e.g. egg freezing, IVF). Not to mention the countless hours of physical therapy, medications, and time lost to endometriosis pain rather than living fully. I’ve known women who experienced similar ordeals 20 to 30 years back. We are beyond overdue for more research, funding, data integration, improved training for gynecologists, and patient-centered care that’s rooted in empathy considering the delays in diagnosis leave women vulnerable, and often, with complicated fertility situations. ✨As we continue to discuss and advocate for #endometriosis, I grow more hopeful that in twenty years I won't need to console a younger woman and version of myself through the same struggles.
Diagnosing the debilitating disease that is endometriosis can only be done with a surgical procedure called a “laparoscopy”. It’s no wonder so many women go undiagnosed when surgery is the only avenue that will provide definitive answers. A lack of awareness and willingness to believe women is also to blame. Women need doctors on their side. They need them to start believing their pain and symptoms and put effort into diagnosing a chronic disease that affects 10% of women—and 50% of women who are infertile. In fact, in a 2004 study, 47% of women with #endometriosis had seen at least five doctors before being diagnosed or referred. Gender bias plays into this rampant denial of a woman’s pain and suffering—many doctors believing that women are simply more dramatic or anxious. What will it take for our pain to be taken and treated seriously? #womenshealth

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness day raises awareness about a condition affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies born each year.CHD Awareness Day aims to educate people about congenital heart defects and their prevalence, while CHD Awareness Day highlights the importance of recognizing and understanding this condition within communities and families. A congenital heart defect (CHD) is a type of birth defect that affects the structure of the heart and how it functions. It involves abnormalities in the heart's walls, valves, or blood vessels, which can affect blood flow through the heart and to the rest of the body. These defects vary in severity, and some may require medical intervention or surgery to correct. #healthcare #healthawareness
