The Kit4Care concept is perceived by many as a valuable investment for the future of care – including care workers’ roles and responsibilities as well as their clients’ health and wellbeing. The Kit4Care programme is being run by Pia Barna & John Bryant FRSA with health & social care colleagues in Devon, using remote monitoring technology from Whzan Digital Health. Its aim is to enable recipients of homecare to stay well and comfortable in their own home for longer whilst receiving high-quality care. The programme is not limited to using one particular piece of technology. It can be expanded to include devices such as digital stethoscopes, medical smart glasses, diabetic monitoring kits and potentially combine different types of tech to provide a holistic assessment of clients’ health needs. However what is important, is that the chosen tech, in this case the Whzan Blue Box, is addressing the issues that are experienced in the respective localities. Virtual healthcare or telemedicine, the use of telecommunications technology to provide remote healthcare services, is seen by many as transformative. Communities across Southern Africa have traditionally struggled with access to quality healthcare, mostly due to how remote they are. When coupled with poverty, and challenges arising from geo-political conflicts, it has been near impossible for many people to access (often) life-saving care. Through a partnership with Q-KON and their Southern African satellite solution, Twoobii, we have been able to implement the Doc-2U platform. Doc-2U is a doctor led, evidence-based platform that provides comprehensive digital healthcare services to under served communities. We estimate that 1.3M veteran households enrolled in the #ACP to get and stay connected to home internet. Another 1M were eligible but remain unconnected. Without access to reliable, affordable home internet - these households cannot connect to the online resources they need to thrive in our digital world, such as accessing telehealth services. Now that the ACP has ended, we must continue to push Congress to find funding to support a broadband benefit to ensure these households are able to connect.

The journey to bridging healthcare disparities requires steadfast partnerships and unwavering commitment. The Rural Health Unit in San Francisco (Anao-aon), Surigao del Norte, Philippines, faced challenges in delivering efficient healthcare due to geographical barriers and limited specialist access, resulting in delayed treatment for residents. Through collaboration with our partners, we transformed healthcare at the Rural Health Unit. Our satellite internet, powered by Kacific1, provided stable connectivity, enabling flourishing telehealth services. Healthcare professionals now conduct virtual consultations, offer medical advice, and monitor patients in real-time. This reliable and fast satellite internet facilitated seamless video conferencing and data transmission, bridging the gap between providers and patients. All of these tasks in our everyday lives have become nearly impossible without the internet, and the Affordable Connectivity Program has successfully made it more affordable and accessible for 22 million American households to get online. However, funds are quickly running out, threatening to unplug those who need it most from affordable internet access, including seniors, veterans, and students of all ages. Today, several bipartisan members of Congress joined forces to introduce the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024, allocating $7 billion toward this widely successful and popular program to ensure no one has to lose crucial internet access.
