What is the biggest mistake when implementing new systems in primary care? Thinking technology alone will solve the problem. I was on a panel today with HTN - Health Tech News and Jon Wilson alongside some brilliant minds in digital health. What did we uncover? With her profound experience, Bex Cottey shared insights on the challenges of integrating a new system into primary care. On a subject she is really passionate about, Emma Stratful discussed how OX is rolling out their system via the TIF programme, with Microsoft integration. Using his balanced, pragmatic mind, Shanker Vijayadeva a crucial point that before procuring new systems, we need to consider NHS sustainability, especially with the financial pressures at the ICB level. And me? From my years as a primary care leader and GP partner, I shared my thoughts on what primary care should look like in the coming years. Often, our past can tell us a lot about the future, and I brought up different things we did at my practice Elm Tree Medical Centre such as: The role of culture in change management. How we integrated digital triage at our practice. And most importantly, what actually worked. Because the truth is, new systems don't fail because of the tech. "In my opinion, cyber security still needs to be fully recognised and understood as a profession within the NHS," Nasser Arif, cyber security manager at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Nasser continued, "I think the NHS is very aware of the threats we face in the health sector, but we still need to better understand the people within cyber security and the specific roles that are needed."
