Unfortunately health care professionals advocating for partial weight restoration or not recognising the need for weight restoration at all is very common, leaving the sufferer in distress for longer. Common protocols for evidenced based practice have these biases in built and unless you learn ways to identify weight bias and address it in your work, you are likely reinforcing cultural narratives that are harmful. This has been raised (and often dismissed) by many for years and yet we are pleased to see this being raised again in the eating disorders space, and hope healthcare providers take note. Unfortunately they don’t “man-up”, “suck it up”, “toughen up”, “harden up” or “beef up” or anything else after you "f**k it up....... Instead they usually do one or all of the following: 🆘Develop a distrust of the healthcare profession. ⌛Develop healthcare avoidance. 🏥Delay seeking medical assistance. 💣Delay and avoid preventative health checks and routine screening. 🫥Don’t get their blood tests and subsequent results. And most of the time don’t come back unless they get really sick. Vermont is on the cusp of a promising shift in mental health care, initiated by a 6–0 vote from the Senate Appropriations Committee to explore the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapy. ✨🍄🔍 This endorsement paved the way for the Bill’s passage in the Senate, signaling a strong legislative interest in advancing psychedelic therapy. 🍄 The bill aims to establish a Psychedelic Therapy Advisory Working Group, which will be responsible for evaluating the potential for regulated access to psychedelics in a therapeutic setting. 🏛️ This group will focus on developing recommendations for how healthcare providers can legally administer psychedelics safely while evaluating the overall impact on public health. In Illinois, mental health conditions were the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths between 2016 and 2017. To address this, the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative (ILPQC) used AIM’s Obstetric Care for Women with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) patient safety bundle to launch the Mothers and Newborns affected by Opioids – Obstetric (MNO-OB) initiative. Over the course of this initiative, the percentage of patients with OUD who were connected to recover treatment services increased from 48% to 70% and patients with OUD who received Narcan counseling increased from 2% to 63%. The ILPQC continues to work with participating facilities to support the implementation of strategies for continuing quality improvement. Thrilled to share that Djibril Ibrahim Moussa Handuleh and I are engaged in studying old-age mental healthcare in Somaliland and proposing policy recommendations for integrating old-age mental healthcare into the existing service delivery. We presented it in the Krakow 2024 Global Conference of Alzheimer's Disease. Mental Health is key in achieving UHC. MH is prevalent in SL. Basic MH services are now integrated and delivered into the primary healthcare. The SL gov't earmarked sin tax for delivering mental healthcare. This marks SL's progress towards UHC. #mentalhealth #uhc #alzheimer's #somaliland
