  • Evidence strongly suggests that the therapy component is integral to successful outcomes in treating PTSD and other mental health issues with psychedelics. However, a key concern in the recent FDA decision regarding Lykos Therapeutics application was the standardization of therapy implementation across treatment sites. Therapy is not strictly regulated at the federal level, complicating its role in drug approval processes. Looking ahead, future psychedelic drug applications may exclude the therapy component from the FDA approval process. This could leave therapy protocols to providers to determine the best approaches. • Every 11 minutes a life is lost to suicide in the United States. Someone’s child, sister, brother, parent, friend, coworker, or neighbor etc. — this affects entire communities. Our communities. According to the CDC 49,449 people in the US died by suicide in 2022. This number was 3% higher than in 2021 (48,183). Most of those struggling with suicidal ideation face shame due to the stigma surrounding suicide, which can prevent them from seeking help. September is National #suicidepreventionmonth, and one of the most accessible ways for all of us to break down the stigma around suicide and mental health is to talk about it. You never know who you might help by even sharing a post right here on social media. At Texans for Greater Mental Health, we are working hard to advocate for and expand access to treatments that have been shown to significantly improve the lives of those facing the depths of suicide and suicidal ideation, such as psychedelic-assisted therapy. • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a mental health condition characterized by pervasive and excessive worry that is difficult to control. This worry often relates to various aspects of life, such as work performance, personal health, family matters, or future events, and is typically disproportionate to the actual likelihood or impact of the feared events. ➡ Characteristics of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) include: ⚫Persistent and Invasive Worry: Individuals with GAD experience frequent, persistent worry nearly every day for at least six months, often feeling helpless to control the anxiety. ⚫Debilitating Impact on Daily Life: The intensity and persistence of the anxiety can be debilitating, impairing the ability to perform routine tasks, maintain social relationships, or manage basic work responsibilities. ⚫Physical Symptoms: GAD manifests not just mentally but often physically, with symptoms that include muscle tension, restlessness, fatigue, and sleep disturbances, all of which compound the condition's disabling effects. ➡ Advancing Treatment through Research: Psychedelic pharmaceutical company MindMed is set to launch a Phase 3 clinical trial exploring LSD as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), building on promising Phase 2 results. The study aims to include over 440 participants. MindMed's Dr. Daniel Karlin emphasized the issues with current treatments: "Patients and individuals impacted by GAD largely have been left behind in recent decades; the last approval of a new GAD treatment came in 2004. The most widely prescribed treatments for the disorder often fail to stimulate significant or long-lasting improvement, while exposing patients to side effects that can range from unpleasant to unbearable." ➡ Hope for the Future: With the FDA granting breakthrough therapy status, there's hope that this treatment could offer an effective new solution for those struggling with anxiety disorders. This coming Phase 3 trial comes after Phase 2 trials, which presented compelling evidence that LSD could be an effective treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. ➡ Looking Ahead: Trials from the coming Phase 3 studies still need to be executed and analyzed, and nothing moves forward if that data isn't significant. However, the FDA's response to the Phase 2 trials is promising. • What starts here changes the world, and Texas is helping shape the psychedelic future in the United States. 💫 Join us 9/12 for a panel discussion where we’ll explore how psychedelic-assisted therapy is poised to transform how we approach mental health and how Texas is playing a surprising leadership role in the psychedelic revolution. ✨Our expert panelists include✨: 🗣️Dr. Lynnette A. Averill, PhD: a researcher who will break down the science behind psychedelic healing and the state of medical research. Dr. Averill is the daughter of a US Marine who died by suicide after years of struggling with ineffective treatments. His life – and subsequent death – shaped Dr. Averill personally and professionally. Her research focuses on the fine-grained understanding of mechanisms underlying psychedelic medicines, the effects of chronic stress and trauma, and treatment response. She served as a subject matter expert for TX House Bill 1802, which passed with near-unanimous bipartisan support and funds a clinical trial of psilocybin for Veterans with PTSD, which Dr. Averill will lead. 🗣️Steve Viola, NRP, PPO ,Certified Coach: a retired Navy SEAL with a powerful story of healing the invisible wounds of war through psychedelic medicine. Steve Viola spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy, serving 28 years as a Navy SEAL and 26 years as a Combat Medic. He retired in 2016 and started a business. He currently serves as the Managing Partner of Max Perdiem, Inc. Steve was recently knighted by The Royal Order of Constantine the Great and Saint Helen in Finland for his international military and humanitarian medical services. Steve took a journey with the The Mission Within in 2017 and has been an advocate for psychedelic therapies ever since. 🗣️Logan Davidson: Texans for Greater Mental Health executive director and experienced legislative advocate will lead the panel discussion and discuss the past, present, and future of psychedelic policy. Before joining T4GMH, he was a legislative and political staffer with bipartisan experience at the state and federal level. He served as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for Representative Alex Dominguez, where he shepherded Texas' historic psychedelic therapy law, HB 1802, to passage and implementation. 👉Why attend? Whether you’re a mental health professional, a person interested in psychedelics, or just fascinated by new developments in research, this event will deepen your understanding of the state of psychedelics in Texas. You’ll leave with practical knowledge and a fresh perspective on how these therapies could make a difference and where they stand with the FDA and state government. 🎟️ RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gHHQ3Vua We can't wait to see you there! 🙏 Please share with your community! 💫 ______ #dallasevents #psychedelicresearch #psychedelictherapy #psychedeliclegislation

  • The FDA has declined to approve MDMA-Assisted Therapy as a treatment for PTSD, requesting additional late-stage studies from Lykos Therapeutics. This decision comes despite promising results from numerous clinical trials indicating that MDMA could significantly reduce PTSD symptoms. We are disappointed but remain committed to ensuring that these potentially life-saving treatments become accessible to those who need them most, particularly Veterans and first responders. We will continue to advocate for the highest standards of care and ethical practice in mental health treatment. Our team emphasizes that while this decision is a setback, it is not the end. We will push forward, exploring every possible avenue to address the mental health crisis affecting our nation. Together, we can continue the vital work of bringing hope and healing to those in need. _____ #fdaruling #fdamdma #mdmaassistedtherapy #psychedelictherapy #mentalhealthtreatment
